If that's the case our standards have fell even further than I thought he is not a young up and coming manager he is 55 and came 9th in Japan last season 36 points behind the champions we were 25 behind the huns and think how bad it was

Personally I'm not taking away from the incompetence of the board but I genuinely believe Howe bottled it. Don't think he had the balls for a two horse race v Gerrard to play out on sky sports. For too long within the club the right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing. (Signing a bag load of young players while employing a manager in Lennon who had * all intention of developing or playing them). I'm warming to Ange and if his philosophy, tactics player development matches the dof in Harkin I am optimistic.

Ach who knows for sure. Highly doubt it but no choice but to support the guy. Good luck Ange, bring the title home and go to war with the media :boxing:

    The opposite.

Someone with a track record at club of a similar or larger size and with a working knowledge of the transfer markets we operate in.

Brendan Rodgers was a low-risk appointment. He had experience in the EPL and Europe, at a club where the supporters had huge expectations. it was basically a certainty that he'd be successful.

Ange doesn't come with anywhere near the same cast-iron guarantee of success. It's a gamble. That doesn't mean it won't pay off but it could also backfire in a huge way.

Brendan Rodgers only came to Celtic because it's the club he supports. We cannot attract managers of that calibre in general.

If he doesn't bring his own backroom staff whatever chance he has of success is already *.

His style is energetic, pressing, fast and charismatic apparently and if he's lumped with those two dour faced uninspiring * Kennedy and Laptop, he might as well stay In Japan.

I don't necessarily disagree with that. There isn't another Brendan Rodgers sitting their waiting on the call. I still think we should be looking to go as low-risk an appointment as possible, with a candidate that ticks as many of the criteria I've listed above.

There are times in history where you can afford to take a bit more of a 'high risk, high reward' punt like Deila, when our only domestic competition was Aberdeen. This isn't one of those times.

If we get it wrong and the huns win the League next season and bank £40m+ from automatic qualification the Champions League then the whole financial advantage we enjoy over them is completely gone, their debt wiped out and it will spell further downsizing from us as a club, which will in turn make it even more difficult to compete and win our title back.

The hun won't make the same mistakes we did, if they're given the opportunity to turn the screw. Their board hate us with ever fibre of their being and unlike us, their primary focus isn't on their own financial gain.

Said it earlier in the thread but I think its worth reiterating, the only way I could get on board with this is if Kennedy and Strachan were punted.

I agree with that we can't but we get higher calibre and less risky appointments than this guy

Having looked into what this guy is all about I wouldn't take Howe over him. A 'Howe' is the best we can do/hope for as a club right now.
