Not with our current board and their 'ambition' for the club.

No, I wouldn't be happy with Maresca. I want a manager with a proper pedigree. We can't afford gambles at this juncture in our history, get this wrong and the pendulum fully swings in favour of the Huns to dominate us for the next few years.

The fact that's even a possibility is a complete failure of our leadership.

I don’t think it’s a case of fans are happy to settle for this appointment and playing into the clubs hands.

What I’m seeing is the acceptance that this is who it is. We want somebody more high profile, but we’re no getting that. Some on here are right. The sneering at this guy is * embarrassing. Just because we want someone we’ve heard of doesn’t mean this guy is a no mark and has no idea how to coach a football team.

The point being made about the friendly is pretty * obvious and anyone who isn’t understanding it is at it or being a difficult *. Yes we know it’s only a friendly. Yes we know they lost 3-1.

But the stats show that Postecoglou is a coach who wants his team to be on the front foot and dominate the ball. The fact he was able to do that with players from the J-League (which is a footballing backwater according to some on here) against elite players, is a testament to his coaching.

Why can’t people actually read what’s being said? We wanted Howe. We wanted someone with real pedigree. We’re getting Postecoglou, who by all accounts is actually a decent coach. So let’s give him a chance.

I've heard of them. Sadly I can also recall teams such as Cluj, Copenhagen, Ferencvaros and Sparta Prague.

There is tons of experienced managers out there just now who could do us a turn but we're here arguing about a guy nobody had heard of about a pre season friendly Vs man city

This guy is not the best man for the job he doesn't deserve a chance at the job the board should not be praised for this appointment. I joked about polishing a * yesterday now a day later possession stats in a friendly he lost are being discussed

For all we know, Man City may have instructed their players to surrender possession in that friendly and focus their play on reactive defending.

It would have been nothing more than a (barely) glorified training session for City.

    Jeez...

For all we know Pep told City to lose 1 - 0 this morning to inspire their campaign for next year.

We have been completely mismanaged since the day Rodgers left. Probably before then to be fair. No doubt about that. I like the idea of this guy though. I see European names flung around on here but 90% of them are pie in the * sky.

    - He doesn't take any *
    - very big on discipline and fitness etc
    - At one clubs he has won them their only league title in 15 years and another he won them 2 of their 4 league titles ever (the other 2 he was a player).
    - Anyone who is familiar with him or who has played under him are giving ringing endorsements.
    - We all wanted Fergal Harkin and this is who Harkin wants.

    Here the whole time
See that attitude from supporters, its likely to be somewhat prevalent in the dressing room too. Footballers in Europe are(mostly) a shower of self absorbed, prima Donna's and there will likely be those that will be looking down their nose at him and his achievements immediately. Add the reputed hard nosed methods we're being told about and the fact celtic is already a pretty toxic environment things could get very ugly, internally, very quickly.

Also, the press here in Scotland actively want the next celtic manager to fail, regardless of who it is. They will be smacking their lips at the prospect of it being some "aussie nobody" that they can heap ridicule and derision on and likewise the club for making such an appointment. The prickly attitude with the press will only stoke that flame even higher.

He will be coming into a job where all the odds are stacked against him. A dressing room that will, possibly, have little respect for him, a support that is, mostly, against his appointment and a local press that, certainly, want him to fail.

Initially I thought this was a ludicrous idea, but the more I find out about him, mostly from you boys enthusiasm granted, the more I'm thinking he might be a decent candidate if the circumstances were right. Sadly, at this point in time, they're probably not and if he is appointed he won't be afforded the same level of patience the likes of Howe would have.

I remember reading something very similar said about Deila. I think it was against Atletico Madrid or something like that.

Honestly it’s the biggest con in football. Manage * teams but ‘play well’ and lose against better teams.

    It’s just a lot of *.

He might turn out to be a great coach, but we need a manager with influence. We need someone to stop the 15 year rot that’s set into this club.

We need someone to help bring up coaching standards, share their experience of scouting networks and player acquisition, raise the standards at Lennoxtown to elite level.

We’re taking a punt on a coach in the J-League who will probably get Kennedy forced on him and a few players from the same agents we always buy from.

It’s a * con and it should be rejected in its entirety. If he’s secretly a top coach then that’s fine, he can come in in 5 years when we have elite infrastructure in place.

It’s a cheap as * gamble by a board that is only interested in the ‘Old Firm’ and controlling this club. Even if it works the long term consequences will be dire.

Thanks I appreciate the response by someone who knows Ange’s work. Also I am not dismissing Ange as I know very little about him and if it is him who is our manager I will back him and the team but still be critical of our Board and the PLC side of the club.

Starting with the last point, I find the full DoF scenario a strange one at the moment as it seems the worst kept secret it’s going to be Harkin and the head coach appointment all but confirms that. The thing that I find strange is why not announce that already as we need players in yesterday.

The coaches, if he wants to play high intensity pressing football he better bring his fitness coach cause our department seems a shambles. We also need to step in to modern football and build a proper coaching team not a defender whose career got ended early and has hung about too long and our ex managers boy. Last season was the worst I have seen us fitness wise. Again linked to the transfer scenario we sorely lack real pace and physicality in our current squad so these would need brought in.

The defensive side is a worry as mentioned before we need to be properly coached on set plays at both ends of the park as they are vitally important to us domestically and in Europe and we are currently terrible at them.

The one thing that’s certain is he won’t get long before the knives are out, at Celtic we are in a full blown crisis on the back of how poor last season was so not hitting the ground running will be a disaster. That’s not Ange’s fault but the reality of the situation.

We may not expect to qualify for the CL groups but if we fall at the first hurdle the pressure will mount quickly. Again not really fair on Ange given he’s going to have about 6 weeks to get us in some form of shape to play a decent opponent but it is reality. If it’s a Ronnie vs Legia type performance the pressure will be unreal.

Another thing that is creeping in here is this idea of 'snobbery' yet the same people claiming this would hate the idea of Davidson or Clarke who have success in this country. Wanting the best man for the job is not snobbery and as I said before I'm not * on the guys achievements but he shouldn't be coming here in the same way Callum Davidson shouldn't be going to spurs

(I dont want Davidson or Clarke either)

Maclaren is an obvious one. He was decent at Hibs as well. Toure at Adelaide is an interesting one. Unbelievable pace and very young. Clisby I thought would have left Central Coast as I thought he stood out when they were awful but they have come on massively this season. Diego Castro is about finished now but he has been good for Perth. Danzaki has been a very good signing for Brisbane, and Jamie Young I always thought was ok as well in a poor Brisbane team. Another team who have improved this year. Benat in an interesting one as well. Is there any connections between Macarthur and Bilbao? Just with Susaeta being there as well. I know he didn’t go direct from Bilbao mind you.

See the boy Curtis Good. Did he have a good reputation in Australia prior to coming over to Britain to play? Because he was rotten at Dundee Utd and didn’t get much of a sniff but he is a regular at Melbourne.

The problem I see with Ange coming in, if it is him, is not his coaching abilities but what he brings. We need a complete overhaul, as promised by The board. A DOF, a scouting team etc, all this could and should have been put in place before any manager coming, we have had 3 months ffs. With his lack of European knowledge and probably very little knowledge of the Scottish game I fear his backroom staff, Kennedy and Strachan, will be forced upon him. As will players, I cannot see our signing policy changing without a major structure change, he will be given players to work with and will end up being another yes man. If he does come then I wish him well but I fear we will struggle to get any top class players in as our own , it will be Citeh players on loan that need game time. Our players are back in training 17 June, we will be playing the Colts team in the qualifiers.
