I don’t think he got the choice of his backroom staff. I think that’s why he walked away from it. Always find it pretty strange that he has never really spoken about it since either.

He's said in quite a few interviews he didn't think he could succeed without his chosen backroom staff. Just two there.

I think Howe has proved he’s a class manager/coach. He’d have done brilliantly here no doubt. However, we have a man that has exceeded all expectations and we absolutely love him!!! Ange runs Celtic football club, from top to bottom, of that there is no doubt. A gentleman and we are very lucky to have him, not the other way round.

First time I’ve seen that. Fair enough. I’d have been happy with Howe, and I wanted him at the time. Wouldn’t swap him in hindsight, but I certainly don’t think he would have been a bad appointment.

Aye he would definitely have been a success here but Ange will leave the entire club in a much stronger position when he goes than Howe would have imo as much as he is a quality manager, he would always have had one eye on getting a move back down south.

Hes proven himself to be a very good manager.
However I think he would have been back down the road pronto. Wouldn't have the Japanese players we've got and wouldn't have had the same connection with the fans.

Yip, he would have had us playing some cracking stuff but I reckon the players we signed would have been more established players as I doubt he would have took the risk of signing unknows incase it went * up and he'd never get a Premier League job straight from leaving us.

Does show a different attitude too.

One manager won't move a few hundred miles after months of negotiations delayed by himself, and shortening any chance to sign players, because he can't source a reliable backroom team from the off.

The other travels thousands of miles, knowing he'll have to quarantine for weeks and the season will start any minute, and that key players have decided they are leaving, so he needs to work largely with what he's got, and existing backroom staff, alone.

I get Ange really wanted a pop at managing in Europe, but still says a lot about him, (and Howe).

Still amazes me that all the Ozzie's wouldn't back him to win the league in his first season. Didn't have any faith in him at all. Just glad we all saw his potential.

We have no idea how it would have worked out but fair to say his style would have suited us. Thank * he never took the job though. Ange is orders of magnitude better than him, as a coach, manager and person.

Should always be our focus though going forward. Progressive pressing attacking managers. Hopefully years in the future before we need to think about it though.

Howe has of course proven himself a very good manager, but sometimes it's down to timing and fit, so I don't know that it's a given that he would have had the same impact as Ange given the state of what he would have inherited.

A full rebuild was pretty much required, and there's no question that our recruitment under Ange has been a big reason for our success with very few misses along the way. A big part of that was being able to tap into the lesser known Japanese market and bring excellent players in for relatively small sums, which has clearly given us an advantage and expedited the process. Howe naturally wouldn't have had that knowledge and those contacts, and therefore likely would have been shopping in more competitive, inflated markets such as England.

Based on his history as well, Ange may just have a very specific talent for rebuilding struggling sides. He did it successfully at Brisbane, Yokohama and the Aussie national team to some degree.

So who knows, maybe Ange would have struggled to achieve what Howe has done at Newcastle, but equally, Howe might not have been able to turn around Celtic so quickly.

I'll hold my hand up to this. Still think we should have gone for Callum Davidson.

That's what you get for looking at the league table upside down.

Ange Postecoglou insists he doesn't care that he upset Neil Banfield with comments after the Viaplay Cup final.

The Rangers assistant manager hit out at the Celtic boss and claimed he'd said something after the Hampden victory which riled him and would act as motivation when the sides meet again in the Scottish Cup semi on Sunday. It wasn't clear exactly what the offending words were and Banfield decided to keep that to himself.

Michael Beale's assistant claimed Gers were 'coming' for their rivals after a quote from the Aussie which 'left a little taste in the mouth'. Postecoglou has now responded as he previewed Sunday's re-match but was unperturbed by the whole thing and insists he doesn't care what people think or say about him.

Asked what he made about Banfield's comments, he said: “Nothing. I’m not really sure what he’s referring to. It was mentioned to me that he was upset about something.

"I’ve said it a million times, every manager and every representative of every football club has the platform to use it the way they like to.

"It’s my prerogative not to worry about what they say. Look, if I was going to worry about what people say I wouldn’t have lasted a month here.

They hardly rolled out the red carpet for me and I managed to survive that. There’s not much anyone else can say that’s going to make me worry or think about it too much.

I know what’s important and what we are trying to do is make our work speak for itself. That’s what we’ll continue to do.”

Asked if he was annoyed that Banfield did not identify what he's supposed to have said out of place, Postecoglou added: “No because I don’t care. It doesn’t bother me.

"If something has upset him, it’s upset him. He can explain it. It’s got nothing to do with me.

"Like I said, we all have the opportunity to use the platform we have to speak to the broader audience and how you use that platform is up to each individual.

Not sure Howe transfers would have paid off considering amount of turnover. Plus was probably as good a time as ever to get Newcastle job..although he’s done a good job there

Probably shopping in the English market like the huns. He had a Winston Churchill bust on his desk so I don't think it was ever meant to be :ange2:
