ANGE POSTECOGLOU paid tribute to midfield masters Aaron Mooy and Callum McGregor after Celtic’s 2-0 win over Dundee United, joking that he was ‘a lucky man’ to have Mooy in his team.

Rangers manager Michael Beale had previously used the term to describe Postecoglou as he discussed the transfer expenditure available to the Celtic manager, and it clearly still sticks in his mind.

So much so that he gave a pointed retort amid his praise of Mooy when asked about the recent performances of the Australian midfielder, who got his fifth goal in seven games from the penalty spot at Tannadice.

“He has been great since the break,” Postecoglou said.

“I am the least surprised about that. It’s one of these things in football that it literally landed at my doorstep. I knew what I was getting.

“Maybe you can use that term I’m a lucky man.”

As for McGregor, the Celtic captain racked up his 400th appearance for the club in Tayside, and Postecoglou says it is a ‘privilege’ to work with him on a daily basis.

    “He was brilliant,” he said.

“We are all pretty privileged to share a dressing room with him.

“The greatest compliment I can pay him is that he plays every game as if it’s his first. He plays every game as if he’s got everything to prove even though he’s done it all. He trains every day like he is the new kid in the building.

“He is an outstanding individual and a credit to himself and his family. And because of the way he is I know there is so much more to come.

“It was great that the lads could get the victory today for the service he has given the club already.”

Postecoglou meanwhile said that chief executive Michael Nicholson was blanking his calls as the closing of the transfer window nears, so he was no clearer on the future of striker Giorgos Giakoumakis or any potential incoming business.

“It’s still sort of in the balance,” he said.

“There are only two days to go and Michael Nicholson’s not taking my calls anymore so I’m not really sure what’s going on the background. I assume everything will be resolved in the next couple of days one way or another. As it stands right now nothing is definite in terms of his next move.

“I’m comfortable with the squad. Even if I wasn’t Michael’s not taking my calls anymore. I think he’s telling me we are done.

“It is probably the strongest squad I have had since I’ve been here. In terms of our depth and our quality.”

I take it the comment about Nicholson was like a wee joke?

Like suggesting he’s really happy with Nicholson’s work in the window?

Haha no doubt. I’ve only read it but I took it as he really happy so he feels he can make a joke about it.

We’re well equipped now squad wise, there’s no real need for anything.

That being said I reckon we’ll have a sniff of something before the Window closes.

Aye, if I was being greedy I would like a third choice ST and a quick, versatile B2B midfielder, but they can wait until the summer.

4 quality January signings is excellent business that are pretty much paid for with Jura’s sale, so if GG goes we’re in profit.

Even though it’s not as much money as we would of hoped for we’re still turning a profit and improving the squad overall. Think Ange is more than happy with that but would probably also like a 3rd striker if GG goes.

Always enjoyed constantly checking the feeds on deadline day to see if we were getting our big targets in. More often than not we'd fail to do so right enough.

And truth be told it's a poor way of doing your transfer business. Credit to Ange because that's now 3 transfer windows where we've avoided having to get desperate in the last few days of the window. All of our work has been completed well before it and it's given us plenty of breathing space. Just look at the nonsense over the other side of the city as they desperately try to get last-minute deals done.

We're in a special, special place with this manager.

Mental record really when you consider the utter * he inherited from an incompetent * before him. 3 of the 4 defeats inside his first 6 games speak for that.

Stats wise, he actually had us up there with the top teams. Take 50% of the incredible amount of proper chances we created and we're through. I wouldnt even put it past him getting us further than that. Everyman and his dog can feel how special he is making this team. Best team since the days of larsson n Co. * love it!! Not even got any fear anymore of the champions league. I know we can stand beside and compete. The players now know, so will be less nervous and more clinical. Winner winner, chicken dinner.

Added bonus is that the usual cycle of the board giving less financial backing to the manager as their tenure unfolds should now be broken. Not just because Ange's January business breaks even, but also because the board are probably confident that whoever Ange wants to sign will become an asset in the future. Not to forget also that (touch wood) more UCL cash could soon be flooding our coffers.

As his philosophy continues to click and we maybe do some clever signings for GK, maybe LB and ST in the summer I would hope we could see us kick on in Europe.

It's harsh on Hart but we really need to get ahead of the issue of finding a relative long term replacement..

LB I've said but it also depends on whether Bernabei shows he can settle through the remaining season and maybe show signs of improvement in pre season.

ST just because I feel all other positions are well covered for now, we've got midfield options who can legitimately play anywhere and wingers who for the most part can play both sides so there is plenty of options there....it's only ST that is arguably light in options in comparison.

I really do think Ange can create history here and I've never been more excited or optimistic on where a manager can take us
