I think both those matches showed that the system can work in Europe. We were able to match Madrid for 60 minutes and actually shaded the chances, while apart from the counter they scored on, Shakhtar barely created anything against us.

Obviously not taking our chances is a massive issue, as we'd undoubtedly be in a different position in the group had we done so (especially against Shakhtar, which would have resulted in a win) but I think the other big issue is that when players like CCV, McGregor and probably to some extent Starfelt are out, we're replacing them with players far less comfortable with the system of play. I know McGregor gave the ball away leading to their goal, but that was more unlucky than anything as he injured himself in the sequence. But Jenz and Abildgaard gave the ball away in dangerous positions on several occasions, in ways that you rarely ever see CCV or McGregor do. That comes with familiarity in the system, knowing where other players are, when not to force a pass, etc. It's also a case of our buildup being impacted when those guys aren't playing and things slowing down (like against St. Mirren)

Ultimately, it's Ange's responsibility to fix. We can't afford for our performances to fall off a cliff whenever Cal or Cam are out. Easier said than done, but I feel like we need another player with attributes like CalMac in the centre of the park. He's the only one who gives us that combination of mobility, composure and technique, especially in the deeper role.

I think mobility is optional for a DMF that starts attacks- Mooy can do most of McGregor's tasks on the ball. Defensively, McGregor is better, since he is more mobile, but neither him nor Mooy are naturally inclined to break up play.

Mobility is important for a CDM in our system, because they'll often be in an advanced position on the pitch and need to be able to recover quickly upon turnovers of play, but also because we play out regularly, and whoever is playing that role is invariably expected to get on the ball a lot. Being able to move, find space, show for the ball is all aided by that mobility, which we see constantly with McGregor.

The attack minded pass has to be on though. Jenz gave the ball away several times trying the attack minded pass so credit probably has to go to lepzieg.

jenz gave away the ball a couple of times and it sent panic throughout the team .the foward pass was on countless times and it went backwards or sideways and thats not the system we are trying to play

I kind of think it may do the opposite, apart from the WC the Champions League is the pinnacle of a managers career. It'll make him more aware of that standard and push that into effect. Ange seems the type of person that picks up the gauntlet rather than looking for an easier fit. This is his first fair, really assessment of his team and tactics, he like all the players will look at that and hopefully learn.

Celtic have opened talks with Ange Postecoglu over a new and improved contract, sources have told Football Insider.

The Australian is on the radar of Premier League clubs following his transformation of the Glasgow giants during the last 15 months.

Celtic are mindful of the interest from south of the border and keen to reward Postecoglu with improved terms

Postecoglu was appointed on a one-year rolling contract in July 2021, when he became Neil Lennon’s permanent replacement.

The move has paid dividends for both parties, and the Australian’s reputation has soared.

Celtic are planning to increase Postecoglu’s wages with with one source said is a “huge” offer and are keen to insert a release clause into any new contract.

That would effectively mean rivals would have to pay a ‘transfer fee’ to lure Postecoglu from Parkhead.

Postecoglu’s camp were approach by Brighton before they eventually appointed Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager before the international break.

He has also been discussed as a candidate by Wolves following the sacking of Bruno Lage, although he is not believed to be the number one contender for the post.

Postecoglu steered Celtic the Scottish Premiership title at the first attempt, as well as back into the Champions League.

The Glasgow giants also won the Scottish League Cup in his first campaign and they began the new season in style with a thumping 4-0 win over Rangers in the league.

A little over a year ago we were in the grubber. Now we are * off we didn’t get a result away in the CL and drew with Shaktar. Just think about that for a minute.

Ange should be given a 5 year deal, bumper pay and more backing in the transfer market.

I'm sure he'll get at least two of those. Clearly the CL is very important to him so the board had better back him.

My role is to intervene at this moment': Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou plans action in wake of RB Leipzig defeat
Across his 15-month tenure as Celtic manager, Ange Postecoglou has rarely upbraided his players in the fashion he did following their 3-1 Champions League loss away to RB Leipzig in midweek.

The Australian castigated his team for slipping into a negative mindset once they had drawn level. A development that manifested itself in consistently playing the ball back to Joe Hart, whose misplaced pass from such a phase led to the Germans’ second goal. The post-mortem necessitated some home truths but also the path from which they must not deviate, according to the 57-year-old.

"My role is to intervene at this moment. If I don't then what is the point of being the manager of this club?” said Postecoglou. “My role is to show them the way forward and give them the solutions that exist to make sure we deal with those scenarios differently. I will look at different aspects of the game with the players. We did our video review on Friday morning, as we always do, and we give them the opportunity to use the tools and the resources to deal with it better next time.”

The Celtic manager received no pushback from his charges over how they had allowed themselves to become stuck in a rut in Leipzig. It was the sort of realisation that Postecoglou understands sometimes requires to be learned the hard way. “You have to live through the experience of games like that,” he said. “Nothing else can replicate going through the process of living it. You can prepare for it but those sort of games are about experiencing it. But it's about how you live that experience. You can waste it if you look for different reasons as to why you lost, and not the important stuff. For us, there are key components in our game. When we do them well, we are a very good football side. When we go away from that against other teams with strong identities, you struggle. We have to be at our best and the players recognise that. They have lived through it and it's an opportunity to improve.”
