I don’t think people have that high expectations of him. I think people just want someone who can screen the defence, intercept well, be strong in the tackle, and be a competent passer of a ball.

I’m a massive O’Riley fan but I do think we could hit an extra gear with McGregor and Hatate filling the roles in front of the holding midfielder. One thing Rodgers said that holds true - the only problem with moving McGregor is you no longer have him in the position you’ve just moved him from :giggle1:

Do you know I also thought this before but during the season so far I think McGregor has been better deeper than the limited minutes he has played higher up. He seems to look for too many touches in the more advanced role where as he moves the ball on quick from deep with good quick forward passing.

It’s a shame Abilgaard will only really be up to speed near the end of our CL Group as I thought playing him and McGregor as a double pivot with Hatate or O’Riley given a single advanced role could have been a good way to go in Europe away from home.

Here’s hoping Abildgaard can get up to speed soon as it would be good to have a more physical option available for some games.

McGregor has one bad game and suddenly his quality is questioned and he should be dropped. Fs.

Again, just sums up the utter nonsense being spouted by some following ONE defeat.

Exactly. Isolate those two and you win the game.

    Knew you'd like that one...
    :ange2:

Surprised no Hatate in there aswell though. Along with Taylor, he's heavily involved in the build up play.

Celtic are keen to tie Ange Postecoglu down to an improved long-term deal after he was shortlisted by Brighton, sources have told Football Insider.

The 57-year-old has been linked with Premier League clubs and elite teams overseas following his transformation of the Scottish giants.

Celtic want to make it harder and more expensive to lure their manager, who they expect to be on the hit list of many clubs this season

Postecoglu was appointed on a one-year rolling contract in July 2021, when he became Neil Lennon’s permanent replacement.

The move has paid dividends for both parties, and the Australian’s reputation has soared.

Celtic are planning to increase Postecoglu’s wages with with one source said is a “huge” offer and are keen to insert a release clause into any new contract.

That would effectively mean rivals would have to pay a ‘transfer fee’ to lure Postecoglu from Parkhead.

Postecoglu was on the radar of Brighton before they eventually appointed Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager before the international break.

The Italian signed a four-year deal with the Seagulls following the departure of Graham Potter to Chelsea.

Postecoglu has enhanced his reputation during his 14 months at Celtic, where he steered the club to the Scottish Premiership title at the first attempt.

The Glasgow giants also won the Scottish League Cup in his first campaign and they have begun the new season in style with a thumping 4-0 win over Rangers in the league.

The board should have got Ange on a better deal as soon as last season finished. After the job he done it was pretty obvious there would be other teams sniffing about him.

Really * me off when teams allow Tavernier and Barasic to play their game.

We've all known about this for years. What are they * playing at?

Ange Postecoglou has moved to calm speculation he may be lured to the riches and glamour of the Premier League.

The Aussie, who won the Premiership and Betfred Cup double last season has been linked with moves to Brighton and more recently with Leicester City where Brendan Rodgers is struggling to hold onto his job.

Now in Australia with a delegation of Celtic decision-makers to promote the Sydney Super Cup, Postecoglou has been interviewed several times by Australian media.

And he's once again underlined how happy he is in Glasgow's east end as he looks to take the club to the last 16 of the Champions League and more trophies.

Speaking on SEN Sports he said: "It's been funny, my mates are probably the best example of that, they've gone through some different coloured shirts over the last few years, different nations. You can hold onto the Celtic gear for a while, mate. I'm happy with it. It's going really well. Here in Australia, it was already a really strong following, it seems like everyone now is following the progress of the club because of my association, it's brilliant to see."
