Ange Postecoglou insisted links with Brighton are irrelevant as he concentrates on grabbing big opportunities with Celtic.

The Aussie leads his team into the Champions League showdown against Shakhtar Donetsk in Warsaw looking to secure a cherished success at Europe’s top level. Postecoglou’s outstanding work at Parkhead in winning the Scottish Premiership title while building a vibrant young side in the process has seen his stock in the game rise across the continent. The 57-year-old’s name has been touted in the direction of Brighton since the Amex Stadium departure of Graham Potter to Chelsea.

However, Postecoglou isn’t interested in such outside chat and said: “It’s not really relevant in my world or in my space. I have done that my whole career, I have just focused on being as successful as I can for the club I represent. If I do that, everything else takes care of itself because things change pretty quickly in football.

“If I’m not successful here, it won’t be other options that open up for me, it’ll be this one that closes.”

Asked if it still feels early in his Celtic journey, Postecoglou continued: “It is what it is. We’ve tried to sort of build the team as quickly as we possibly can. We did that last year knowing that we needed to bring success to the football club. We are in the Champions League now, so our role now is to be the best we can be in that and try to make an impact this year.

“Where that takes us, or how far that takes us, we’ll see at the end. I have always been mindful of making sure that every opportunity we get we try to grab. Whether it’s come too early or come at the right time, we do know that Champions League football is here for us and we want to take that opportunity.

Just read the odds have shortened on Ange going to Brighton.

I suspect that's due to all the sevconians putting their proceeds-of-crime money on him to force the odds down in a vain attempt to unsettle our support.

The Celtic boss was quizzed on the plans during his press conference ahead of the clash with the Ukranian outfit. Postecoglou said: “I will abide by whatever regulations there are. I’m not the keeper of people’s obligations.

“We live in a society where people can express their own values in any way they want. I will be doing it my way and my club will do it our way, and everyone else can do what they like.”

Doesn't fill me with confidence that, I must say :56:

Can't handle this so I'm just going to turn my brain off to any and all speculation and enjoy Ange and these players while they're here.

They've actually lengthened again (oh err) in the last hour.

Anyway those quotes weren't exactly reassuring. Cheers Ange:87:

Totally agree, I read it as a case of "I'm here till I'm sacked." Cup half full

Ange is pragmatic. He's here till he is not.

I think partly he can't be bothered speculating about it, or feeding into anyone else's navel gazing; and, importantly, it only serves to distract from what is in front of him (playing/winning games).

What's the average tenure of a manager these days? Probably not much; discussing his departure proper will come around soon enough.:fear:

Ange ain't moving this season. It's 100% obvious. Can we please focus on how good he is and where he is taking us?

Anything else is Daily Record *-talking.

Same as most managers, he is here till it becomes clear the club does not have the funds to match their ambitions....i think we will have him for 3 years.

I suspect we mite get a more concrete no on Friday.

You just know the muppets in Scottish press will ask at least 3 times at his press conference on Friday for St mirren game.

During BR's second season it was pretty plain (for me anyway) to see that his energy was being put into working towards an epl return.

His body language and comments etc all changed dramatically from his first season. He didn't sound "honoured" anymore. And was a little too comfortable ignoring speculation about his future.

With Ange i see something different.

But unfortunately, its not to my liking very much either.

Ange is no doubt committed to Celtic. Hes swatted away the speculation in typical Ange no nonsense style. Ie. Im not stupid enough to count chickens that havent hatched.

Ange will be well aware that a job like Brighton is a massive step in the wrong direction, especially for his brand of football. Theres simply no way he can make the short term impact demanded by epl lunatics.
He would require a * load if time and indeed money to implement his philosophy, and it would be a full season before results started to show.... Time managers simply dont get in the epl.

BR is an impact manager. He takes whats there, peppers it with quality and then instills belief. Liverpool, Celtic, now Leicester, all his sides start off playing beautiful, attractive, attacking football. Impressing, challenging, and lauded.
By season 3, opp managers have him figured out and he finds himself in a hole of his own making.

Ange operates differently. It has to be nothing if not RELENTLESS.

Please forgive the comparison, but in terms of domesticity, Ange is a comfort manager. He will have zero time for working a side that is comparatively "broke" compared to those at the top of the table. Like Pep.

Unless the money is there for Ange to assert his philosophy on a raft of new personnel, hes not taking it.

Ange is ambitious. Its time alot of folk on here face that reality.

You dont go from the A-league to the Champions League without that kind if ruthless ambition and self belief.

It also has to be noted hes no spring chicken.

The window of opportunity might pop up at any moment, a la a club like Newcastle, where he will be free to spend and build snd be given the time to do so.

    For now, hes here.

How long is anyones guess. If BR can walk away for Leicester, and Lennon can walk away for * Bolton... Then theres no point in pretending Ange Postecoglou is here for a long haul.

Obviously is all dependant on circumstance.

But to put in plainly, Scottish Football can only offer a window to the big time. Sooner or later every good manager looks for the door.

I do agree we are now on borrowed time due to Ange's ambition.

For me simply winning domestically won't be enough to satisfy him medium - long term.

He's spoke often about making us a force in europe but ultimately like the rat and even Lennon (1st time around) he will soon discover that his ambitions and those of the board don't match up when it comes to Europe. Simply being there and being cannon fodder to the big sides is enough for them. All they care about is the money we get for competing not ACTUALLY competing.

I still believe that Ange is going nowhere, but his comments do not exactly fill me with confidence.

Last week I was 100% confident he was staying, now it's only 99.99%
