I'm 90% certain that he is a right back.I've seen him play there for Germany and Stuttgart.
The reason that he's can't get into the team at Sevilla is because Dani Alves is in front of him.

I totally agree. We have two great young RBs in Wilson (when he is fully fit) and Caddis and we also have Doumbe who looked great before his injury. Caddis is fit again and I think Wilson will be back before January is out. Not sure about Doumbe's timetable. Caldwell has also done pretty decent as a make shift too IMO. We dont need a RB. We are desperate for a LB though. Is this guy a natural left footer? I think Strachans tactics need overlapping fullbacks who are strong on their outside foot.

not too bothered about his CL cuptie. I am realistic enough to know we will be very lucky if we have more than two more games left in the CL so the SPL is what matters now.

I'd be very surprised if Strachan didn't have the CL in mind when trying to sign players in January, so the fact he's being linked would make you think he's not cup-tied.

A 17 times capped German international is undoubtedly better than any right back currently at the club.

Totally agree. I would replace just about every member of our defence given the chance.

my point is we have to prioritise and RB is not a top priorty. LB a CB, a CF and a winger are higher priority. That little lot alone would cost at least 10-15 million.

Maybe the idea is to play him in-front of Naylor,we have been playing Jarosik as a left-mid for bout a month and-half

According to the Sunday Mail site we've signed him....

    The Bhoy From Seville

Dec 16 2007 By Mark Guidi
CELTIC will make German international full-back Andreas Hinkel their first January signing after agreeing a s2million deal with Seville.
Gordon Strachan has moved quickly to bolster his defence by landing the 17-cap star who is frustrated at his lack of first-team action since moving from Stuttgart in June 2006.
Left-backHinkel has also lost his place in the Germany squad and believes a move to the Scottish champions can revive his career.
Hinkel said: "I have decided to look for a new club. I want to move, preferably in the winter break."
The 25-year-old's arrival will be welcomed by Hoops fans as he will provide vital competition and cover in Strachan's problem position at left-back.
With LeeNaylor crocked, the Celts boss has had to plug the gap with midfielder Paul Hartley, centre-half Darren O'Dea and rookie Ryan Conroy.
Hinkel's agent Klaus Schaude revealed three clubs - including Wolfsburg who are bossed by his ex-Stuttgart gaffer Felix Magath - were interested in the defender but sources in Spain andGermany insist Celtic have won the race.
Schaude said: "We are in talks with three teams and in the next three or four days can close the deal."
Meanwhile, Hoops chief executive Peter Lawwell last night insisted Artur Boruc will not be allowed to leave - and vowed Hinkel won't be the only new arrival in January.
As MailSport revealed last month, the s10million Poland keeper is trying to work his ticket out of Parkhead. But Lawwell will dig his heels in and prevent the fans' favourite quitting.
Lawwell's only aim is to give Strachan more funds to improve the squad.
Roy Keane and Craig Bellamy have been high profile January buys in previous seasons and more big names could follow. Lawwell said: "We have targets and will try to strengthen the squad further in January.
"We've had a plan in place for a while but getting to the Champions League last 16 gives us a bit of flexibility.
"The supporters demand we try to push on and we've spent s22million in the past two years. We can't deliver a Lionel Messi or Thierry Henry but can be inventive.
"Some guys might leave but we won't selling any of our best players."

:icon_mrgreen:sounding good for the transfer window

well chuffed if his is true, under WGS's system alot is demanded of our full backs and there-for top quality is a priority, from what i've read this guy ticks the boxes, and possibly versatile enough to play either flank.

apparently he favours RB nowadays and has only played LB once for Sevilla which is strange considering they had none fit at the start of the season. apparently Wilson is being primed for left back with hinkel/doumbe on the right but this is flexible. he is a good player and was first choice fro germany when at stuttgart so he is quality at bargain price.

To be fair he played well there, better than he has performed at the right of the defence.

sounds good! maybe naylor would benefit from a spell on the bench and soon realise that he will be dropped when he plays *.
