That is good. i think we have tended to have too many guys at CB around the 5ft 11 to 6ft mark (Caldwell, Tom Boyd etc). It doesnt sound a lot of a difference but generally around 6ft 4 or more a CB would be pretty well unbeatble in the air in the SPL (not a tall league). I remember Scotland playing Sweden a good few years back and our CBs had a real struggle against such a tall side. Tall in Sweden seems to be 6ft 4 or more and there were guys around 6ft 6 in that team.

Might be on to something there - 3 of the more successful CB's in Scotland in recent years have been 6/4 or there about - Gary Kenneth, Lee Wilkie, Sol Bamba and of course Weir and Bougherra are 6/3...

Basically guys around 5ft 11, 6ft, 6ft 1 are just not dominantly big in this day and age.

As for Kenneth-he is becoming a dominant CH with more and more confidence each season. We really ought to have gone for him. Hate our 'fans' who say he is a hun. So was Dalgleish and several of the lions (in all probability). It doesnt matter. Play for Celtic long enough and they will become Celtic through and throuhg.

Got to agree. Loovens showed some early promise but I have pretty well given up on him. I just do not think he is good enough at tackling.

Mark Reynolds at Motherwell is better than any centrehalfs we have at the moment.

    Loovens - 6'2
    O'Dea - 6'1
    McManus - 6'1
    Caldwell - 6'1

    ---

    Rogne - 6'4+
    Hooiveld - 6'4

It is quite interesting although the very top end of the CB world proves height isn't everything (Cannavaro, Puyol). I'm not sure Kenneth is simply a good enough footballer to take on the UEFA Cup and CL although is undoubtedly quite dominating in the SPL. When the balls at his feet he is a nightmare though. Will Rogne be a blend of the two?

I think Rogne will/is a blend of both. Very good with the ball at his feet and seems to be a good defender. I dont think Hooiveld is, think he thinks he is better than he is.

How many games did du wei play?

That being said, think hooiveld deserves a chance to settle with a partner before we judge him after a handful of games, Especially after shelling out decent cash for him.

I'd cream myself if big Olof came to CP! That's what we need, a * big viking!:84:...and a more perfect replacement for Mjallby you couldn't imagine! Its not a bad idea mind you, I dont think Olympiacos are a mega rich club? (forgive me if i'm wrong) Sell Brown then move for him...boom!

Ain't upset with the Granqvist link mind!

So your saying mark roynolds is better than the likes of thomas rogne milan misun and josh thompson some of these young guys have got great potential to become some of the top defenders in europe in a few years time mark reynolds has no potential hes an avrage spl defender and will end up being in the championship at best.

I think Granqvist would be a great signing. He is experienced at a high level of football and has good strength so won't be forced off the ball and should win his share of ariel battles. With regards Reynolds I think he is a decent defender but no better than what we already have. Any time I have seen him he can look excellent for 89 minutes but have moments of poor concentration for example a late challenge which could cause problems. However I think he is one to watch and could develop into one of Scotland's main centre halfs.
