If it was a meaningless friendly, we wouldn't be playing them.

The meaning of these friendlies are getting match fitness up and having a look at new players/youth players and seeing what shape our current players have come back in.

Plenty of meaning behind these games.

In terms of performance these first couple of friendlies are pretty meaningless. It's all about fitness and getting in to shape, then you can focus on performance. But also, nobody is going to be risking injuries in these friendlies either. People can take what they want from them but I wouldn't be getting too over excited about them.

I also think a lot of people were a bit underwhelmed by this signing primarily based on a couple of youtube videos and now people are just noticing anything negative about him that they can.

Not for guys like Stephen Moyokoulo who were out to impress.

Which he did. How many of them actually NEED to impress in the opening couple of pre season friendlies? Probably only him and maybe the youngsters will be keen to hit the ground running but they are essentially all about assessing fitness levels.

Assessing fitness levels is probably the first priority.

Plenty of guys who have played these first two games have needed to impress early on: Guys like (just off the top of my head here): Moyokoulo, Fisher, Henderson, McGeouch, Watt, Kayal (and that other young lad that played - can't remember his name) was about showing what they can do for the team performance wise. Also the same with van * and Balde - also showing how their attributes will slot in to the team.

Some of that may be true but I really don't think that they will be concerned at all by performance levels at this stage in the pre season. Apart from Moyokoulo who was playing for a contract.

I think having signed Van * and Balde for reasonable money the manager and coaching staff should have a rough idea of how they will fit in to the team without them having to show too much in the first couple of friendlies.

On paper, the coaches will know what Balde and van * look like. In training and pre-season is what gives them their first glimpses of how they interact with the existing team ;- not just on the pitch, but off it also! It won't be the be all and end all, but it gives the staff a good idea of what areas (if any) the new players have to work on.

Kayal is most definitely playing for a second chance at becoming a first team regular - same with McGeouch. Watt is playing for a starting bearth, and the younger fellas like Fisher et al are playing to impress.

    That is a definite.

A lot of them! Expecially at centre back and upfront as this is where we have signed these players that play there ! All we are saying is if its meaningless and also meaning these teams aren't really of high standard why can't amido show us what he has... Maybe he has nothing on offer you need to give a good impression to start these games that mean something!

They have to be able to get through ninety minutes comfortably before they can really show us what they have.

What's the point in going all out then when it comes to important games like Cliftonville not being able to last the ninety?

These games are pure fitness exercises.

I've learned not to make judgements on players during pre season after watching Juarez and thinking he was going to be amazing for us... so I'll give Balde the benefit of the doubt for now. ;)

He hasn't looked great but I don't think he was as bad as people are making him out to be. I'm hopeful that this guy can be a good player and will reserve judgement until halfway through the season.

Why do I have a bad feeling about this guy. And I haven't watched the first two friendlies so it isn't based on his performances in both games. I just have a bad feeling he isn't going to be the striker he talked himself up to be (or what the media portrayed him out to be)

I'd love if he scored a hat trick from now till the end of he season . Some if use loyalty would still pick faults.

The lads not looked to good during his two pre season fitness games. But the real season not even began yet give the lad a chance

I have doubts about this guy to be honest. His goal scoring record isn't great and he seems to have been moving between teams frequently. Lets hope I'm wrong though!

He will score around 7 goals for us this season.
