It was good to see, I was shocked at the turnout to be honest.

I'm glad some Americans support Celtic. It's easy to be a sheep and glory hunter and support a spanish or english side, but you chose Celtic, that takes dedication.

Is that to me? Like I said before I never had a choice. So glad I didn't though :icon_mrgreen: Celtic is the only one for me. When I go to New York now and then, the amount of Chelsea, Madrid, Barcelona, Man Utd, Liverpool jerseys is sad. And none of their own teams like the Cosmos or Red Bulls.

American Celtic fans in general mate.

when people don't have a big and successful club around them they tend to support a big side from a fancy league.

We all , on the other hand, must be *. :icon_mrgreen:

I hate all that glory hunting *, it's pathetic. I know a boy and girl from Texas and they support Real Madrid like it's their religion. They have never been to Madrid or Spain. They don't know anyone from there or have ties to the club. They only picked them because of how well they have done over the years. Oh and of course the lovely white kit...

TBF though, that is not completely uncommon. In Australia, for example, (& admittedly it has been a few years now since I was back there), you didn't see too many people wandering around wearing the shirts of the various NSL (& later, the A-League) teams, in favour of European big names.

Go into most sports store retailers, and IF they had a selection of football jerseys that extended beyond the likes of Man U, Liverpool, Juve, Real, AC & Inter etc it was rare. Most teams used to have to be ordered i special. Fortunately, the national Umbro importers were based near where we lived & they stocked all the Umbro made teams, including ROI, Eng & of course Celtic back then, but as I say, havent been back there since.

My point being, this trend is not exclusively an American one.

Never been to Oz so can't comment. I don't get how people can just pick random team and be obsessed with them. The sports stores I go to don't even sell any soccer stuff. Mostly football, basketball etc. Finding football boots is a nightmare here. :31:

You get a lot of people here wearing the tops of EPL, La Liga and Seria A sides too. It's a worldwide trend.

have to say i was pleasantly surprised by baseball, it was actually rather entertaining, even if the red sox got utterly humped at the game i was at; plus i think the copious amount of beer i drank so as to use up the last of my travel money helped :50:

fenway is pretty cool and the pubs on the landsdowne road behind the green monstah' are pretty neat aswell

i miss being in america! :55:

I've heard these arguments aimed toward me in regards to why I shouldn't support Celtic. Celtic may not be CL challengers but you don't see Americans walking around with St. Mirren shirts, or even Hearts/Hibernian shirts. If Celtic hadn't been successful I would never have seen them on their UEFA Cup run. Following a successful club in itself isn't necessarily a bad thing, the most important thing is just to be a genuine fan of the game and, even if you like a foreign team like we do, try to support the domestic game by attending and watching MLS matches.

I was at the Fenway game as well, was in the Lansdowne Irish pub longer then the match though, never heard so many rebel tunes, lol. The New York CSC was a lot of fun.

I never really started following football until maybe 6 or 7 years ago. I picked Celtic because I had a lot of Irish and some Scottish relatives way back and my parents always made a big deal about our heritage and listening to celtic music and the lot. The first I ever heard of Celtic was actually through some songs I had heard many years ago, can't remember which ones they were to be honest

I live in seattle, so I was at that game as well. It felt weird to see them off the tv for me too. I'm going to scotland this summer so I am going to try to see another Celtic game while I am over there.:50:

i beg to differ with that. they are as european as spray on cheese. they might be ethnically european but most went to america hundreds of years ago.

as for the americans' contribution to TC, overall i think its good. adds a new perspective to celtic chat as well as the social issues in the pub.

i have to say, if im being honest, most of the americans have a deeper knowledge of real football than i would have expected
