I'm glad we rejected the £6m, but anything more and I'd probably sell. I like Ki, I think he's a far better player than people give him credit for, but for me he's no more than a squad player. No way he's going to get a regular place in our midfield ahead of Brown, Kayal, Ledley or Wanyama, so for us to get more than £6m would be cracking business IMO.

I'm delighted to here this. Celtic are obviously in a very good financial position being able to reject £6million. We are now in a position where we can put our own price tags on our players. I'm sure Lawwell won't be unrealistic and be hoping for £10million+. £8million would surely be the top price anything more would be a real bonus. Celtic should now have a mentality like Porto and Lyon. Buy up the prospects, develop, improve each individual and sell on for profits. While maintaining a good level.

Just goes to show how much this guy must make teams behind the scenes being asian poty et al. Ki is occasionally brilliant, often very mediocre. He cant run, defend, head or tackle. He rarely tracks back and never takes games by the scruff of their necks. Now, for a central midfielder, i would say these qualities are required unless the player is a magician ie Nakamura. Which Ki is not. If people think this guy is worth 8m, how much are the four or five guys ahead of him in the team worth?

Hooper is in the first 11 and top goalscorer so of course we would reject it but I never said anything about Hooper I said we wouldn't reject that amount for ki.

I know - he gets so much stick just because 'he can't tackle' - so what? People need to drop this and realise that he's not that kind of central-midfielder.
He had a good season this year too. 7 goals and 6 assists, I think. Someone else posted his season stats on the 'Ki wanted by Fergie' thread - makes you realise just how well he actually did for us this year, given how he struggled with injury, suffered an illness, and was away at the Asian Cup for weeks on end.
Don't get me wrong, he can be inconsistent, but he's the only CM of his kind that we have, and is still a great prospect. I'd only be happy at £7-8m, and with us spending some of it on someone like Markus Henriksen, to make sure we keep that bit of skill in our midfield that Ki brings.

Only the people inside Celtic know his worth. We dont know how much he makes us from merchandising but the board do. On purely footballing terms 6mil is a very reasonable first offer. With EPL clubs circling we might make it to the 10mil before letting him go which would be great. We built a squad with the 'McGeady money' now hopefully we can add some real talent with the 'Ki money'

    £8m and no less.

Ki has a lot of things going for him. Young, tall, good technique, bags of potential and a brilliant marketing tool.

He gets priced highly because of his potential imo, hes not a great player right now but hes got the attributes to become one, i dont think he'll be world class or anything but he could play at a high level i think and do a good job, plus sitting playmakers with a good range of passing are all the rage nowadays, and ofcourse ki brings a certain amount of interest with him from asia which equals more money.

I rate Ki pretty highly and glad we turned down £6million bid for him. However, if any bid of around the 8 million mark comes in for him it would be good business to sell him imo

I'd sell at £6millon but put a hefty sell on clause in his contract.

Unlike many I will be sad to see him go as I think he is a sure potential but that is another thread in another world in another universe .

Good luck to the lad if he does indeed go. :shamrock:

i think he is decent and will be a bit sad to see him go as he is a decent player. but id take £6m for our 5th choice centre mid anyday. if an improved offer comes in then we should definitely accept.

£6m not bad for an opening bid. Think we will get £8m, £9m now for Ki :50:

8 million and bring in a couple of quality players with that. If this story is anywhere near true then we should take Rubin Kazan for as much as they are willing to offer. Not as if they are skint is it. Im sure they have been looking at him for a while now too..

Take £8m+ and * it all on a new, young forward - i can dream anyway.

I don't want to see him go as i feel we need quality in depth and i'm not sure if McGeough and Twardzik are the quality from the bench that will be needed through a season.

I think inevitable that will open the bidding process and we'll see offers over £8M

    - and consequently that will drive the price for Wanyama over £12M.

If that happens, we will sell both for combined £20M plus knock-ons.

I'd probably prefer personally to keep Wanyama - he gives us so many different options, particularly in Europe. That versatility allows Lenny to switch up formation without having to change personnel.
But being realistic, that money gives us serious consideration for the striker and center half we really desperately need.
If we could escape the SPL, there is no way we would let either go - but even with Europe, the reality is we have enough horsepower in the middle - assuming we can keep players healthy - with Brown, Ledley, Kayal, Forrest, Commons, Sammy, McGeouch to make it work. And we may well add another 'prospect' (like the successes we've seen with Kayal, Ki, Wanyama, Izzy etc)

Look at the Portuguese teams - that is their business model for success.

So we'll let BOTH of them go, bring in Rhodes and a serious canter-half (the latter position is one I am tired of experimenting in the basement markets for)
