    Strikes me as a guy who would be a genuine joy to listen to as a pundit when he retires. If he goes down that route. Actually provided some actual insight instead of just throwing out the usual buzzwords

    PSYCHED-UP Alistair Johnston won’t be fazed if he’s handed the baptism of fire of an Old Firm derby debut at Ibrox on Monday.

    Celtic’s new signing hasn’t kicked a ball since playing for Canada in their World Cup finals group-stage defeat to Morocco on December 1.


    But the 24-year-old has been training flat out with the Hoops squad for the last two-and-a-half weeks since being unveiled at Parkhead, following his £3million move from MLS side Montreal.

    The right-back, who officially becomes a Celtic player on Sunday, is a contender to be selected by boss Ange Postecoglou, along with fellow World Cup star Josip Juranovic, as Tony Ralston remains locked in a fitness battle.

    On facing Rangers, Johnston said: “It’s definitely the kind of game I get up for even more. You could say that for the whole city — obviously, Rangers v Celtic is a match known around the world.

    “At the same time we completely understand if you win that, it’s still three points.



    But there is, of course, added significance, and we understand that.

    “It’s a great game for a player like me.

    “That physical battle is something I enjoy a lot and it really gets me up for a match.”

    Postecoglou is giving Ralston every chance to shake off what’s believed to be a back strain which forced him off during the 2-1 win over Livingston before Christmas.
