    He’s very limited going forward.

His physicality and commitment is great though.

All this criticism is harsh I want a defender to be able to defend its his primary job and he does that well. Some of it is harsh his through ball etc for Kyogo was good give him a break

I actually think we could have a use for his work rate and defensive awareness in Europe. It's the domestic games against inferior opposition that I'm worried about. Very early days, but it seems he's fairly limited offensively, especially compared to Juranovic.

Ralston when fit should be coming straight in. Johnston is fine defensively. Sure Ange will work on his weaknesses.

Offensive play was JJs weakness too. Ralston was miles ahead in attack

He’s excellent defensively and just keeps it simple, he’ll only improve on his attacking side but Ralston is definitely better going forward.

Might just be he’s not confident going forward yet, he can certainly score and assist from his time in the MLS so hopefully we see more of that soon.

Did you ever watch Juranovic? :56:Aye he could get past players with his pace but his final ball was awful.

His crossing was but in the build up and going by his man, Juranovic was heavily involved..

Aye his reels show that he does have it. Needs to up it though as with the amount he'll see of the ball going forward....he hasn't done enough yet..

    Hope it is just settling..

His first game was against the scum and he was brilliant, subsequent games his form has been up and down, give the guy time and his game will improve.

Juranovic was * going forward as well, a wee bit better than Johnston currently but it was his biggest crux for us by far. Ralston is miles ahead of both in that department.

Poor going forward today but not too worried. Got something like 5 goals and 4 assists in the MLS last year so must have it in his locker. Hopefully playing it safe and getting used to the system atm.

He was constantly running up and down the pitch making himself available for a pass. That's what matters the most. You can't attempt a cross/final ball if you don't make yourself available to receive the ball in the first place. He was also technically gifted and could run with the ball to get past players, if needed.

Very poor in the final third.

    Solid enough defensively.

He's still in his first month, he's keeping it simple and looks competent defensively. He played a few nice passes too, give him a few months and he'll be part of our attacking moves too

He has been superb defensively. My main criticism of him is that not only is he scared to attack the opposition fullback, he seems to be allergic to crossing the ball. I have my worries that he's just more suited to a back 3 and isn't actually a natural fullback.

Really surprised by some of the criticism here. I thought he was excellent again.

Johnston gets up and down the line no issue as well, just doesn’t have the same pace to go past players but doesn’t hide.

I think he's been great for us so far. Less inspiring today going forward, chose the safe pass instead of taking a man on or crossing it but that is most certainly down to just settling in and probably not wanting to make any mistakes for his new team. Once he's spent a few months perfecting his role in our system he'll be a force guarentee it. Look at Mooy, Ralston, Taylor and GG for example who all looked way shiter than AJ before improving.
