A season or so ago if we were linked with both of those players people would be creaming their pants at the thought of having them both in the side. One bad move to England for each and suddenly they are pish? don't think so.

DARE I say it but I am actually excited (I know right) at the thought of a fit Tonev and a fit and settled Berget in our team.

He doesn't really do much does he ? 11 goals 8 assists in 140 club games, we have full backs with better records

Remember being disappointed when he didnt sign last year but assumed it was a dodged bullet as he's done nothing for villa.

Oh well, sure he's the champions league quality player we've been looking for.

We should be focusing on a striker. Its not a bad deal, loan then option to buy but the one player we need before the deadline closes for the maribor games is a striker.

I was wondering earlier if we have a limit on loan deals - I always thought it was 4 - maybe from football manager or something, but I've read in a few places that it's unlimited - can someone verify?

I think I'd throttle Lawwell if we didn't make one non-loan purchase :smiley-laughing002:

Why are people annoyed at him for choosing Villa?

If I'm a player like Tonev (with no connection to Celtic might I add. It's not like he grew up supporting us) and I'm offered a significantly bigger wage to play in England against Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool etc. instead of Dundee Utd, Kilmarnock and St Mirren then obviously it's in the best interest of the player to sign where they're getting more money and will be challenged at a higher level.

People are talking like he betrayed us or something.

Not a bad signing. I was really excited by the prospect of signing him last year. Looked pretty pathetic at Villa, in all honesty, but a bad career move can knock a player's confidence. One thing I like about the Berget & Tonev signings is that they've already experienced English football and will have a bitter taste in their mouths about it. Makes it easier to hold onto them if they do well here. :icon_mrgreen:

The he turned is down argument isn't about being * at him it's about him not wanting to play for us, why sign him if we know he'll jump at the chance to go back to England ?

Tonev on the right, Sammy on the left and a new striker up the middle wouldn't be too bad?

Cause he'll have to prove himself to get another chance at England which means he'll need to challenge for a starting place and actually play well, for us. So we benefit from that. Plus he could enjoy himself here if he does manage to play well, and when he get to play in front of our 'fantastic support' (should people give him a chance and not slate him before he's even kicked a ball), then you never know he might want to stay with us and keep his place in our team.

All hypothetical of course, but you can't say cause he turned us down once that he automatically doesn't want to ever play for us or do well here

Well, put it this way. We've got two decent players with no big dent in our finances. So hopefully, more deals can be done. We get a chance to see how they develop and if it turns out bad, we're not stuck with them.
