CELTIC are closing in on the capture of Aleksandar Tonev after agreeing a £2million deal with the player's Polish club, Lech Poznan.
The Bulgarian winger, who has 11 caps, is on Neil Lennon’s wanted list ahead of another crack at the Champions League.
The Celtic gaffer will this week hold crunch talks with chief executive Peter Lawwell and majority shareholder Dermot Desmond.
Lennon will hope to thrash out a new deal for himself while the futures of players such as Gary Hooper will also feature prominently.
He’s also keen to add to his squad and Record Sport understands a deal for Tonev has been agreed with Lech.
Lazio, Fiorentina and Malaga are also interested in the 23-year-old but Tonev has spoken openly about his desire to move to Parkhead.
He said: “It’s important I consistently play Champions League football, Celtic is somewhere I could achieve that.”
Lennon’s only problem may come if the player’s head is turned by talk of a move to Germany.
In the last 48 hours interest from Werder Bremen has emerged and with the Bundesliga in strong shape at the moment, a firming up of their interest may tempt Tonev away.

 

With season ticket renewals date getting extended I'll take this with a pinch of salt. I remember a few seasons ago we were "close" to sealing a deal to sign Bojan at this time of year.

8 million is quite clearly a typo. The Daily Record story it refers to does not mention an 8 million pricetag, but a 2 million one.

Quite excited about this one! The fact Malaga and Bremen wanted him aswell also shows that thelad must have something!

 

The boy is exactly what we need, a guy that can play either side and take teams on on the break. He's got a fair old strike on him too.

It's way too early to be saying we'll get him, but hopefully we can get the deal done quickly. There is still over a month until the transfer window opens, so we'll see what happens, but he does look like a very good player. If we can keep the team together and add a few guys like this, we'll maybe have what it takes to compete in the last 16 of the Champions League

 

Hope we can get this one done and dusted.

 

He's making the right noises about Europe etc. Hopefully get him in before the big qualifiers as he will probably sit on the offer till we actually get through if we wait too long

 

If he wants to play in Europe then he will not move to Malaga as they are banned next season .

 

I heard he was waiting 2 weeks before making a decision and that was just over a week ago
