Fair enough, but I would worry about a new formation. Better to play the one we know in a compact way imo, like Qarabaq away. If we can sort out our set-pieces we might actually get something out of this

Ajax aren't Qarabag and we have no Virgil Van Dijk. Protecting the defence is a must. Most of these players were here under Lenny amd were used to chamging formation, it wouldn't worry me too much.

Ronny hasn't got the tactical knowledge to be able to set his team up differently though.

Brown and Bitton can easily protect our defence if told to.

I would disagree on the tactical knowledge as well. It's not like he has never heard of other formation, but he has said he feels that it's better to stick with one formation because you'll always know how to play that formation better than your opponent knows how to stop it (or something to that effect)

The whole focus on formation is exaggerated imo. Our problem is movement. We don't move quickly enough in attack and we're not good at varying how high up we press. (+those defensive set pieces)

He has heard of them I'm sure, it's the ability to implement them that I'd query. That dirst bit * terrifies me, that is just arrogance, the more that you play the one way with no ability to chamge it the easier it is to defend.

We aren't better than Ajax, the formation is struggling against the likes of Aberdeen. We aren't good at it, why religiously stick to somethin we aren't very good at?

We are tediously predictable just now.

But we didn't lose against Aberdeen because of the formation. I really think our problems lie elsewhere - and if you want to be good at something you sort of have to stick with it for a while anyhow.

Yes, we did. The 3 in behind were getting no space to play, no time on the ball and offered no threat whatsoever, our main striker was isolated and we struggled to make chamces because of that. Left us bereft of any sort of imagination.

It wasn't our only problem but it was a major one.

Again, not a formation problem. They got no help from our full backs at all. That's what made our attack tick last season and it's not a formation problem.

I think this is a protect the back line game and hit on the break. 4 across the back with a sweeper, possibly brown sitting in front with a midfield of 4 including Forrest or gms for an out ball and one up top! Play for a draw why not. Would bite a grannys arm off for a draw now!

Yes it is because when we haven't got players to attack going forward like Blackett then youchange it up so the formation and style suits the players.

You don't just shoehorn them in there and hope that it works the way it is supposed to. That's what we're doing just now.

Whether that's us putting Mulgrew at left back and expecting him to play like Izzy etc.

Style and formation to suit the players, at all times, that's what you do.

    Janko Boyata Lustig Izzy
    Bitton
    Brown Johansen
    Forrest Griffiths Armstrong

If Armstrong is still out then Commons or GMS on the left. We have to play conservative and then hit them on the break.

Back 4 will no doubt be like this though-

    Lustig Boyata Mulgrew Izzy

A bit early to say what Blackett can and can't do after only one game. Bottom line is, I don't see why the players can't adapt to the way we play - presumably that's why we got them in the first place, because Ronny think they can play that way. Give them time. If anything we're more like to see a 4-3-3 like the one CookieMonster just put up than any other alternative formations

Blackett's a centre half that can play left back, he's not an Izzy, he's not one to be able to take men on and put dangerous balls into the box.

Ronny should know that if he's signed him.

King Kenny and Henrik. Proud to have seen them both play.
Play for a draw. Like in Malmo :31:

And someone said play like we did against Barca, only we had Wanyama who was a beast and we had Ledley who was SO important to our team then. This current mob don't have the smarts to play that way.

    I just don't know........

Yes I think they can. The players are all very good and I think the playersgroup is even better than last season. Buty the jews and psv also have good groups, the jews, ajax, are always lucky but play * and psv plays well and they have Luuk de Jong, a very good striker. If Feyenoord manages to get a good chemistry in the group, I believe they can become the 2015/2016 champions.

Don't ask me why but I just have a feeling we'll go here and win. I know, I know... * knows why, just in amongst the madness and doom and gloom I just think we're due a big one and might catch Ajax on the hop first game out..

    I know mate :smiley-laughing002:

However poor we might be, I always find some wee bit of nonsensical positivity in my nut that rear me up again..... To fall back flat most probably :56:
