Aiden McGeady,Merged.

So in todays press conference:

O'Neill admitted Milner wants to go
O'Neill admitted we are operating on a sell to but policy
O'Neill then went on to big up Aiden McGeady
taken from villatalk.

 

milner leaving (plays centre mid anyway) leaves them only 2 wingers.

 

Downing can play centre mid aswell and looks like he could easily replace Milner in there .

 

i think mcgeady will do well down there tbh....he won't get doubled up on,will have more space.just think he is more suited to the premiership than maloney was

 

I don't think we will even get a reasonable bid for him. I see him being here at the start of the new season. Hope im wrong.

 

if we keep him and he has mulgrew playing behind him that could work well for us.mulgrew is far better going forward than fox or naylor and with him and mcgeady bombing down the wing it would cause problems for any defence

 

1st and foremost, defenders have to defend!

 

obviously.but we are the team on the attack more often than not.and if we have two good cb's and a defending midfielder then we have the cover to let him get forward plenty

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has reiterated his admiration for Celtic's Aiden McGeady, while carefully refusing to be drawn on his signing plans.
"I think Aiden McGeady has the ability to play in the Premier League, without question," said O'Neill.
"I had him as a kid at Celtic and played him without worrying too much about his youth.
"He played against AC Milan one night in the Champions League at Celtic Park and he was absolutely fantastic."


O'Neill was speaking in Dublin, where Villa will be based for a four-day training camp.
And he was quizzed about speculation linking him to the Republic of Ireland international trio of McGeady, Robbie Keane and Stephen Ireland.


"We have been linked with an awful lot of players and I would expect that because we are a top quality Premier League side," added O'Neill, who has admitted he is prepared to sell England midfielder James Milner.
"There's no point in me mentioning names but, without wanting to lose players of the calibre of Milner, we would want to try to recruit some players."


Looking at that i would say if hees reiterating his admiration, then he will be putting in a huge bid which the papers say will happen. Also sorry for the long post

 

I can promise you 100% that we wont bid 10 million for Aiden , it will be in the region of 8 million !

 

We should sell but only for £10 million, £8 million rising to £10 million would be the minimum i'd take which is basically the same thing but it would give us less to play with for now.

 

McGeady goes to Villa for £6 mio and comes back 3 seaons later for £2 mio.

I think this is Martin dropping a subtle hint that he is prepared to move for Aiden if He sells James Milner for £20M + to Manchester City. I would think Mon would get the best out of Aiden at Villa as he knows him so well, and his empathetic approach would nurture and encourage Aiden to realise his full potential on the bigger stage of the EPL. I could see Stan the Man and Aiden making quite a formidable partnership in midfield. I would expect in the region of £10M if the deal goes through.

I really dont get that man he is no were near the ability of Ashley Young or Stuart Downing but if yous do get him I will be over the moon :icon_mrgreen:

 

Stewart Downing , in my opinion , is terrible. He never runs at Defenders and never trys to take them on , he always is negative and plays the ball back! Aiden , under Mon , could be the next Milner for us because i feel Mon would move him into a central role if Milner go's . Remember Mon can make anyone play well

if/when aiden go's to villa i hope he excels, they're my favourite team apart from celtic and would be nice for him to prove the doubters (including me) wrong

 

O'Neill gets the best out of wingers and imo, McGeady at his best is far better than Downing and Young
