He won it 2014/15, we bought him half way through the season and loaned him straight back to ict.

I don't think Montgomery is good enough, too lightweight, and I remember everybody was moaning on this forum about him when he was given chances in the team before.

I would rather give Matthew Anderson his chance now to break through.

That's true altho to be fair Ralston didn't come back to compete in 1st team. He came back as nobody wanted him and hung around for another year before Ange seen something in him.

Decent achievement but fact it's an award that is limited to Scottish u21s does dilute it slightly and when you look at the others in the list it's not exactly a high standard.

As I say u don't watch St Johnstone games but certainly dont ever remember him standing out on the brief highlights on sportscene or any pundits raving about him the way they were with Turnbull, Siegrest or any other spfl signings we've made.

Left back is a position that needs strengthening for next season. So we need an upgrade on Bernabei and at the very least a similar level to Taylor (hopefully better). For me Montgomery hasn't shown he is either so don't see the point in stockpiling left backs or letting his career stagnate like we have done to others.

Think Taylor is nailed on as our number 1 and I don't anticipate us going all out in the summer again on a left back, only way I see him overtaken in that regard is a lb we already have. Especially for me when we very likely will need significant investment in centre mid and most likely right wing. I do agree that stock piling left backs is not the way because when everyone lands in for pre season currently we could have Taylor bernabei Anderson scales Montgomery for lb alone. I just think we need to clear house a bit but one from Montgomery Anderson and scales should be given a genuine opportunity to challenge taylor.

Last time we dumped a lb for being too small he ended up going on and winning the cl.. we really shouldn't be in such a poor position at lb considering the players we turned our noses up at over the past 5 years namely hickey and doig

Ralston had finished his contract and was looking for a club. He has been part of first team squad since 16 or so, whenever not out on loan though. Lennon being a fud was why he didn't play that year more than anything else.

Was likely brought back by Kennedy or similar as we didn't have another recognised RB and no manager. Nothing to do with Ange.

Would like to see Montgomery get his chance before we consider a loan. Not many of our development squad take the step into another SPL first team and play the whole season.

Massive difference, Robertson was 15 years old and the other is 21 come July.

Can I see Montgomery make it here? Not so sure but it’s got nothing to do with being lightweight like the other poster suggested maybe he is not good enough

I agree with you, I only referred to his size due to the previous comment. Whether it's Vata for rw, summers for midfield or Montgomery or Anderson for lb I would really like to see ange bring through a couple of players from within over the summer.. we shall see

From the little iv seen I'd say Anderson looks best bet of the 3 but I'm not sure he's ready to challenge Taylor or be deemed suitable back up as yet.
The way I look at it is by questioning if I'd he happy with them stepping in in a champions league game or at ibrox.

Bernabei answered that empathetically last week.
Welsh and Turnbull also have imo.

For me if we want to progress that has tk be the question being asked before signing anyone.
If we are 1 injury away from playing an inexperienced player or 1 who's not ready or 1 who's a complete liability (Bernabei) then the squad isn't strong enough.

Taylor had done well over the last 18 months and has came along way but van veen showed all his weaknesses are still there last month. If we can't find an upgrade within our budget then we need better scouts

He’s so, so far off the level we should be looking for. Folk moan about Bernabei but want Montgomery back :giggle1:

I'm not currently on the bandwagon of "Bernabei is *", but comparing Montgomery and Bernabeis situation is nonsense.

Montgomery there is a discussion on whether he's worth a pre-season for Celtic having played a season of top-level Scottish football.

Any comparison to Bernabei has to be is about, is he worth the money we have paid so far. Only one winner there.

Can mind that being aimed at KT, lightweight wee guy KT done the hardest 50/50s anaw

Fleetwood boss Scott Brown is hoping for an early favour from incoming Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers - as he wants to sign Adam Montgomery on-loan.

The former Hoops skipper is a big fan of the left-back and has been a long-term target.

Montgomery has just come back from a successful loan with St Johnstone.

Saints would be interested in taking him back again for next season although there are several Scottish Premier League clubs who would also be keen if he was available.

Montgomery previously worked under Brown when he was assistant manager at Aberdeen.

Brown may have to wait until he assesses his Celtic squad before he makes a decision on the 20-year-old.

Celtic currently have Greg Taylor and Alexandro Bernabei are the two players who have been blocking Montgomery’s first-team path.
