sometimes playing that formation leaves us exposed at the back, and it would be good to play him at right midfield it gives us flexibility in diff formations

MOTM for me on Saturday. Closely followed by Brown. If we do play a 4-4-2 then Lustig at RB with Matthews at RM would be superb. Plenty of cover provided, plenty of pace, and he has a good final ball. What more can you ask for.

Might actually be an idea to play him right mid, when he is allowed the freedom to go forward he can be devastating. It also gives you a natural right back to slot in when Lustig bombs forward.

    Excellent point.

For me - Lustig is number 1 RB currently.

I definitely think that - especially on the right side of midfield - we have lacked width there this season and it would be a great idea to give Matthews a bash as RM.

Wee mans class really come into his own with the 3-5-2 formation as his attacking pace, delivery are quality and I think there may be a cheeky couple of bids in January for him as his form won't have gone unnoticed,he won't leave though!

I think he is a great wee player & will only get better.

It would be toss up between him & Lustig at right back though

If we play the 3-5-2 we can play both, but then were does Mulgrew play

FFS mind boggling, it must be very hard for Lennon to pick between all these players

I like mulgrew in a back 3 especially in the spl as we're too new and naive too try this formation in the champs league but also accommodating Forrest in the 3-5-2 is another headache for Lennon possibly

    Forster

    Ambrose Wilson Mulgrew

    Matthews Izzy

    Wanyama

    Brown. Ledley

Leaves 3 people for one spot in my opinion
    Sammy/commons/Forrest

    Hooper

    Dilemma!

    Forster
    Lustig Ambrose Wilson Mulgrew
    Matthews Kayal Wanyama Ledley Izaguirre
    Forrest Brown Commons Samaras

Your right lustig has really made rb his own but much better in a back four than the back three, also kayals a tough one got all the attributes and has started to come back into a game recently but Ledleys that but more settled and doesn't get caught out of position like kayal are mr consistent!

Loved Adam ever since the Derby game in December 011, he was fantastic that night, really came into his own and matured. A brilliant performance from a then teenager in the biggest and most crucial game of the season, and by far the most intimidating and loud atmosphere he would have ever encountered.

We've signed or brought through many youngsters with great potential in the past, but so many never had the stomach or the fight for the "Old Firm" culture. Lennon has succeeded by bringing in youths not just with ability, but also with clear desire and hunger to achieve and this is imo the key to our current success.

Matthews embodies that spirit more than anyone in our current squad, he's came from nowhere and arrived with little fanfare as a potential star of the future, and has emerged as a key player and one of the elite band of humans who can proudly say they have marked Messi out of a game and rendered him virtually useless.

He also seems to have his feet firmly on the ground and I can't see him leaving anytime soon. I suspect and hope he will be a Celtic regular for years to come.

I know there is a thread on him somewhere already, just can't be arsed scrawling through pages to look for it. If a mod finds it, can you merge them or something?

Anyway, it's his 21st birthday today. Happy birthday, Adam :celt_2::shamrock:

Boy is a cracker. Great engine, good pace and isn't frightened to go forward. A bit more work on his crossing and he will never be out the team.

Guy I worked with told me he was a bumper and we wouldn't be able to keep him. He's right on the first point, hope he's wrong on the second.

We have 2 top class right backs at the minute in him and Lustig.

He has looked very good in recent weeks Matthews.

Matthews is still so young, hes only going to get better.

I never panic when hes playing in defence, always gets the tackle in and hes improved so much going forward without losing the ball.

I remember the days, back in Strachan's last season, when we were playing the likes of Paul Hartley and Joel Doumbe at right back.

Yet another example of how far we've come in the last few years :50:
