Why? We signed Engels for more and, if anything, he’s shown recently that exactly what he needed was a run of games and time to develop.

The fee is important though because we're a club that relies on selling players at a profit. £9m is only justified if he can be sold for more than that amount because one player alone is not likely to make back that money any other way. Unless he's scoring the winner in multiple CL games, there's just no way he can ever make us back that fee in performances.

Barkas and Ajeti were disasters because of how much we paid rather than simply how bad they were. Ajeti wasn't even terrible, he was just a £1m player that cost us far too much. Even my perspective on Edouard soured after maybe 18 months because I felt he wasn't showing enough progress to justify much more than what we paid for him. And I was right, he wasn't worth much more than that, even though he was a worthwhile signing in the end.

With Idah, it looks like we'll almost definitely lose money. And for a club of our financial stature, we can absorb it but it will make our board more risk averse. Him not coming good matters, there's a fair bit riding on it.

I actually thought he done fine first half on Saturday by and large, he created two good chances for Johnston and Kyogo, was heavily involved in our first goal and should have had one himself which the only real disappointment that he failed to turn in the shot that Kyogo had blocked.

Second half though he was pretty poor before coming off. I would be tempted to stick with the same forward line tomorrow night from the start as I do think he ties up defenders which leaves space for Kyogo.

How many games do we give him? He's also been here a year, Engles came in the summer. Looks as far away from a £9m striker as can be. Sometimes signings dont work out and most fans agree that we prob paid over the odds for him.

Bar a decent enough first-half in Saturday he’s looked pretty poor recently tbf. Kyogo’s not been at his best this season but he’s still getting in good positions and having attempts in goal - Idah, to me, just looks way off the pace currently, and you wouldn’t bet an awful lot that that will change anytime soon. Best of luck to the Bhoy though.

I’m not saying Idah is the answer (in fact I’m on record saying we overpaid for him), but almost any striker on the planet needs a run of games to find confidence, form and sharpness. It’s extremely tough to be given 20 minutes and half an hour here and there and expected to hit the ground running. Idah managed that to pretty startling affect during his loan spell and earned his move here, but it’s a nigh on impossible thing to maintain at the levels he set.

There’s a lot of football to be played in the second half of the season and (especially with the lead we have in the league) Idah will hopefully get a chance to string together some performances. If he’s still struggling come summer then I fully agree that we can start worrying about things not working out.

I agree with that.. but he has started a good few games lately and his lack of impact is a worry..

I thought his cracking goal v County at home, a brace that game, would kick him on, but it hasn't happened..

There's a player there we've seen that.. he just won't get unlimited chances, a Celtic striker needs to find the net, regularly and even sometimes that in itself isn't enough..

Looking for him to be really hungry tomorrow and a goal will do him the world of good.

Rodgers addresses Adam Idah's form and spells out Celtic striker 'reality'

It has been more than six weeks and 11 appearances since Adam Idah last found the net for Celtic, but manager Brendan Rodgers says he is confident the forward will soon rediscover the form that persuaded the club to shell out £9m to bring him back to Glasgow last summer.

Idah, of course, hasn’t started all of those matches, but he has been in the starting XI for the last three games as Rodgers looks to get the rhythm back into Idah’s game that he feels is crucial to getting the best from

The number of goals from elsewhere, particularly from the wings, may mean that Rodgers is relaxed about Idah’s struggles in front of goal at the moment, but he has spelled out to the Republic of Ireland international that sooner or later, he will once again have to start producing the big moments he became known for during his loan spell at the club last season.

“I thought Adam did well at the weekend, yet he didn't get his goal,” Rodgers said.

“I think some players are better in rhythm and playing. But there are certain positions that you have to produce. That's the reality of it.

“But I was really pleased with his contribution. I don't need my striker to score 40 goals a season, I really don't

If you look at any of my teams, the goals are always spread out. What I need is the players to be intense, to be aggressive.

“There were some great moments for him at the weekend. Yeah, he didn't get his goal, but he was there, made vital contributions, setting up the game for us, allowing other players to attack the space. He's working very, very hard, Adam.

When asked if his lack of goals – he has eight from 29 appearances all told this season – was affecting the forward, Rodgers said: “I don't believe so. I think it's his own self-pride, you want to score goals.

As a striker, that's why you're there - to create goals, score goals. But for me, as long as I'm seeing the work rate and the intensity and the mentality, then I'm really happy with that. Knowing that the goalscoring burden doesn't go to one player, it has to go to the whole team.

“As long as the team are working well, then that makes me happy. And for him, he's working really well.

“He's been unfortunate. He had one that he saw near post [on Saturday] and had a couple of other wee moments. But the goals will come for him, Adam, he's already shown that he can score goals."

What also cannot be overlooked in Rodgers’ estimation is the physical presence that Idah brings to his side, giving him a different option to the speed and movement of Kyogo Furuhashi when he feels the team requires a focal point up top.

That can come in particularly useful he feels when Celtic have to travel to difficult away venues as they did at the weekend, and as they will do tomorrow night when the champions make their way to Dens Park

Yes, very good [option], I think,” he said.

“He's a player that, like we've seen away at Atalanta, when you have to go in there over the top of pressure, or whether it's a surface...we still always try and play on a difficult surface, but he gives you that possibility. He's a really good reference for the team.

“He can still run in behind and he's good in the box. So having that different type of striker is fantastic for us.

“Like we see with Kyogo at the weekend, his movement for the first goal is…wow. Just the number of runs he makes to make sure he stays onside, just the timing, the cleverness and then obviously the finish.

“So, to have strikers like that that can give you different possibilities is very useful within your squad

I imagine every fan wants him to come good, however, he has had 3 games on the bounce and contributed little. He doesn't look to have improved or developed at all in his time here. At £4m I would have said that he was worth the risk, at £9m I think we have overpaid for him, unless BR can squeeze a better player out of him. I think he has a bit of an attitude as well.
