Celtic still have an active interest in Norwich City striker Adam Idah, sources have told Football Insider.

The Hoops are in the market for a senior striker, as Kyogo Furuhashi is currently their only proven frontline option

Celtic have been speaking to Norwich all summer about the 23-year-old, but no deal is close yet between the two clubs.

Despite that, the Glasgow giants are expected to make a formal bid soon after having a £4million bid rejected in July

Football Insider revealed that Idah is pushing to join Celtic permanently following his loan spell at the club during the second half of last season.

Idah impressed during his time at Celtic Park, scoring nine goals in 19 appearances as he helped the club win the Scottish Premiership.

The striker failed to turn up for Norwich’s flight to their pre-season camp in Austria last weekend, and the club are expected to discipline him for that.

 

I would say there is a very good chance your right there.

 

John Hartson has accused Norwich of "taking the mick" over their valuation of Adam Idah amid Celtic's interest in the striker.

The Hoops want to secure a permanent return of the man they took on loan from the Canaries in the second part of last season. That proved to be a masterstroke from Brendan Rodgers despite initial scepticism from the fan base as the hitman scored some huge goals in the title race revival and then the Scottish Cup final.


With promising youngster Rocco Vata opting to move on and Oh sold to Genk, it leaves Kyogo as the only recognised senior centre forward at the club. Rodgers has admitted his ideal goal is to have three competing for the striking berth and so two will need to be signed.


Clearly, he'd like one to be Idah but Norwich are standing firm and want to keep hold of the 23-year-old. There are varying reports on their valuation of the Republic of Ireland striker but a discussion involving Hartson on Go Radio suggested it was around £7.5million.


And he said: "I would like another centre forward in, I don't want to get the window out the way and we've still only got Kyogo. I think they're on the lookout for one but they're dragging their heels with Idah at the minute, I don't know what's happening.

"I hope the club don't think they've got enough domestically. Because they have got enough domestically but I'd like to see Brendan Rodgers bring in some quality to add to the quality they already have. In the Champions League, you need that quality



I'm a little bit aggrieved with Norwich because he wasn't in the team, he was on the bench. Celtic gave him a platform to make a name for himself, gave him game time which he wasn't getting a lot of at Norwich. Now he's done really well, you half expect it because clubs get as greedy as they can and try and get as much out the players as they can


But to be asking reportedly £6.5/7/8million, and he's only been playing regularly for six months. I know it's business but I'm a little bit aggrieved by that. I think they're taking the mick a bit."

The discussion moved on to a debate between the merits of Idah and Aberdeen's Bojan Miovski, a previous reported target. Hartson has previously been an advocate for the Macedonian but admits he's been impressed by what the Irishman has produced


I said Miovski last year but Idah was fantastic," he added. "He was really, really good when he came in. I thought he scored some real big goals for Celtic, really important goals when they needed a centre forward to come in.

 

Move on man. How long will this rumble on ?

Not telling me we can't get a similar or even better striker for £5-6m, as much as he done well while here.

 

I know he done really well but I still think we can do so much better than him.

Obviously Rodgers likes him but if there isn't any movement by the weekend I really hope we just move on, he's not a top end player we should be hanging on for any longer.

Like last week it would be an absolute crime to go into the new season not signing an outfield player

Johannes Hoff Thorup has welcomed Adam Idah back into the Norwich fold, but admitted another bid COULD come in from Celtic for the striker.

Idah was disciplined by the club for missing a flight to a pre-season friendly against Hoffenheim in Germany, with speculation linking him with a permanent move to the Premiership champions thought to be a factor involved. Brendan Rodgers wants to bring the Ireland international back to Parkhead after a successful loan stint last year, but the Canaries are standing firm on how much they want to let Idah go.


Reports have emerged that the Hoops are preparing a fresh offer for Idah, thought to be for £8million, with claims that previous attempts to land him for £4m and £6m were unsuccessful. That could be enough to tempt Norwich into selling, although they are also braced for Leeds trying to prise Jonny Rowe away from Carrow Road.

Thorup was quizzed on the futures of both players, and while he couldn't guarantee they would still be at the club after the transfer window closes, he did insists that both are training with the rest of the group and are mentally ready to contribute ahead of the Yellows' Championship opener away to new boys Oxford Utd on Saturday.


These guys, they train with the group and they are important players for the group," he said. "That's how it is.

"We have to respect that the window is still open so so many things can happen. We cannot affect what can happen. We cannot affect whether there will be another off from a club or there
