So no striker/winger and no defensive midfielder? You go into the champions league with McGregor/Mooy as a number 6 and you're getting ripped apart.

What’s the consensus here on the DM hunt? Is Mooy considered some sort of answer or are we still expecting a big move for the much-needed DM?

Getting the feeling Mooy will be the CDM, which is massively worrying.

Ange’s quotes about not wanting or needing a physical presence in midfield, followed by this signing…

And that's why, for me, it's a lazy as * signing. If that's who Ange is going to for another DM option, I seriously worry about it.

This feels like one of these signings no one gets that excited about then 2 games in we are screaming for the extra year to he activated already.

Absolutely fine with this, and trust Ange’s judgement.

If he was a mediocre player then yes... lazy signing.

Thing is, he's a brilliant player. Ange doesn't do lazy signings. He only signs people he's analysed closely for how they'd fit within his squad and system.

He's nearly 32 but I've zero doubt he can still play at a very high level. Anyone who doubts his quality has simply never watched him play.

He's not the hard as nails type of DM people on here want, thats for sure. He is a well rounded midfielder though, which will be very important for Angeball when we're out and about in Europe. Our midfield need precision in passing and players that can soak up pressure and I think Mooy will bring that.

Haven't seen him play in a while though, hopefully he'll bring to us what he brought the Huddersfield midfield a couple of years ago.

Genuinely, if he's a brilliant player, why aren't teams in the Premier League coming after him? Teams like Forest, Fulham or Bournemouth who have just come up and need brilliant players?

From what I've seen, the two teams he turned down in the championship to sign with us are Birmingham and Sunderland. One finished 18th and the other got promoted from League One. So, Huddersfield, the very team that laud him as some sort of hero didn't even want to take a punt on him.

Is he going to play in front of McGregor in Europe at the base of a midfield? He absolutely will not. He's nowhere near McGregors level and never has been. Is he an upgrade on McCarthy/Ideguchi? It certainly seems that way. So, the squad has gotten a bit better. He can play some games and give McGregor a rest. However, I believe we could have done that with Ideguchi and McCarthy. That's why it seems pointless to me.

Agree, wouldn’t think ange would touch someone who’s fitness was questionable

Sorry but this is completely wrong. I'd never say he was better than McGregor - even at his very peak - but he was in that league. He worked wonders for little Huddersfield to drag them into the EPL.

I reckon Calmac will love playing with him.

yeah I think if we get a hard as nails player then it comprises anges tactics , if you want a hard player which can pass then your talking out our price range, ange knows 90% of the time Celtic will be in a game with majority possession so not really going to be defending.

He hasn't been playing regularly though for the last 2 years. Can he still handle 2 games a week for months on end if we need him to? I'm assuming he'll be called up for the world cup so he won't even get a break then. I know he's a fit guy, but he's not been putting his body under the same pressure physically of late as he'd be doing here.

Yes, the idea is likely that we'll rotate him, so he shouldn't be playing all the time, but we've seen injuries pile up before so it's entirely possible we may end up needing him to play a lot of games over a sustained period. If he'd already been doing that recently I wouldn't be as worried, but it's something we just don't know the answer to at the moment.

Think it will be good business. If we could get McCarthy out it would be fantastic. Hopefully kick on in another few positions now too.

Given the Covid lockdowns in China, he's not played much in recent times but that could turn out to be a bonus at his age. He's very fit and has been training with the NT fitness specialists to get him up to pace for the recent WC qualifiers where he was a standout... as usual.

As I said earlier, he's incredibly strong in possession and always finds a pass. That will be worth a lot when trying to close a game down and probably the main reason Ange wants him.

Look I'm not impressed by it nor do I want it to happen but if it does he'll have my full backing.
