He’s 32 in September and has played in china for about 2/3 years, certainly not a signing that gets me buzzing, who knows we’ll see what happens..

It’s a one year deal with an option of an extension.

Like I say, not exactly something getting my * tingling, but at least it’s eyebrow raising.

Where was he playing before that? Early 30s is not over the hill like many of you keep saying. Could care less, my position is I trust Ange at this point.

I’m not really bothered about where he was before it.

It was a bit of a silly statement you made. Our best defensive midfielder in the last 15 years was signed from the Belgian league.

The league they come from doesn’t really make a difference. Souza looks like he’d have been a far better signing and more like what we need.

The humble pie was copious after people started to believe in Ange.

Plenty of second helpings coming. It's pretty clear to me that most commenters on here have never seen him play. He (more or less) single-handedly dragged Huddersfield (yes...Huddersfield) into the EPL and there was mass desolation when he was sold. Many on the Hudds forum said he was the best player ever to pull on their shirt.

So he's 31... nearly 32, but he's always had a tremendous engine and looks fit. Was one of the two or three best players recently over 120 minutes against Peru in a death or glory game. Mooy is quality plus and Ange knows him well (capped him for the NT I think).

If it's a one year deal with an option then that's great business given Mooy's ability and experience.

Souza might be great but you all assume he's world class. He was playing for a * team in the Belgian league. We will see how he kicks on at espanyol. Not all that bothered since he clearly didn't want to come here. Judging further signings based off not getting him is just pointless.

If this is the Kewell effect I am not impressed. 4 or 5 years ago I'd have been happy to get him, not now though.

McGregor is always likely to play, so if it's him and Mooy it would really need to be Hatate as the 3rd because if you used one of O'Riley or Turnbull it's not exactly a dynamic midfield. I'm not saying they can't play together, I just don't see it being particularly effective.

I really can't see the point of this unless there is a player we are after but can't get for another year for some bizarre reason and he's a stop gap until then. Hopefully if we do sign him he shows me up by putting in a POTY season though.

I mean, you just did exactly that on the previous page.

Then you started rambling about Hendry (signed from a Scottish club), Bolingoli (Belgian club) and Shved (Ukrainian club).

    Struggling to see the connection.

If this is our DM signing then I am * gutted and disappointed at our lack of ambition here.

An old Australian freebie from the Lawwell biscuit tin, pathetic. Ange what the * mate.

Shved isn’t. 2 goals in 32 games is atrocious, particularly given the league is obviously * in your eyes.

Seems you can’t differentiate the league from
the player. Players will thrive in Belgium and flop here. Players will thrive here and flop in Belgium. That’s how football works.

Absolutely everything about Souza pointed towards him being a very good player. His underlying numbers, the fact he’s part of the City group, the fact PSV, Fenerbahce and Ajax (and us) were interested in him.

But nah, plays in Belgium so must be *.

Struggling with this one to be honest. Trying to see the positives in it, less money on replacing Rogic means we can throw some decent dough at a centre back, Defensive midfielder and a striker but properly struggling with it.
