A SWANKY new Irish bar is set to open in the Merchant City tonight.

The new venue, Grace’s, will be at 18 Candleriggs, formerly occupied by Wicked Lounge which shut up shop suddenly just over two weeks ago.

Grace’s announced the exciting news on Facebook after teasing punters since Monday.

The team wrote: “Opening this Friday 6pm.

“We are delighted to announce that we will be opening our doors this Friday evening!

Live music from Podgie and The Flying Column from 7.30pm.”

The post gathered attention locally and has, so far, amassed over 2,000 reactions in just a few hours.

More competition for you mate ..

I take it as they have called it an Irish bar that will justify the price of Guiness probably being about 9 quid a pint or something :giggle1:

I prefer shitehole Irish pubs with illicit songs that are reeking of stale drink, have burst seats, sticky floors and things blue tacked and sellotaped to the walls.

Got as far as 'swanky' and was thinking the same but looking at the bands they've picked for the opening night I'll gie them the benefit of the doubt.

Is it not the one guy that runs most of the Irish pubs about? probably the same * again here, I remember talking to the security guy once as I recognised him with a few and he said whatever guy it was had St Vincents, Brendans and I think another couple. They seem to open last a year and shut a lot, going by the bands its on it looks the same again although may be trying a new fancier style place. Could be anycunt though.

No sure who is opening it mate but it does look a bit like the 'Brendan's model. Dunno how many names that place has had. Was Shannon's I think first time I went in then was Haggies for a while. Always a handy place to stop on the way up to the ground though if you had your fill of swanky bars like Bar67 and wanted to break the walk to the ground up.

Changes name for every about 10 times it opens, it was called the Emerald Isle at one point as well, Hagies, Kerrys, Brendans :56: actually wasnt called the Emerald Isle but it was called something like that a while ago.

As an outsider, not too familar with Glasgow, what are the chances of this bar being attacked or smashed up by Huns?
