All club legends are Celtic supporters (even passively).

I am not Catholic however i would say Celtic are perceived to be a largely Catholic Club. Our history or tradition and Roman Catholicism are intertwined. Not a huge deal these days however still cannot be denied. We have never been a sectarian club since our foundation.

Would I rather have a Catholic as manager? If two were of equal ability I'd prefer the Catholic. Hearing the Huns spew anti Catholic bigotry could only spur them on!

    Yes I do.

Catholicism will always have connotations with Celtic imo because it is a central plank in the origins of the club. The origins of the club will always be relevant to the here and now. Whether that's today or in another 100 years time the origins of this club will always be central to it's identity.

There is no need to downplay that link or be ashamed of that link either. To state that you are proud of the club's historical links to Catholicism is very different to saying that you want the club to be exclusively Catholic.

Celtic is a club open to all religious persuasions. That's great and that's how it should be. But in my opinion the heart of the club will always be Catholic in nature because of the reasons it was formed and the men who formed it.

    Celtic’s Catholic origins are undeniable.

But to suggest Catholicism should play any further role (be it in management preference) in the club is outrageous.

So we should use Catholicism as a means of inciting Rangers?

It is Rangers that make the Old Firm a religious matter (I personally prefer not to entertain the idea rather than give credence).

Was the old Pope not one of the Bhoys? Sure he was. I think the team received an audience with Pope John Paul II at one point in time....unless i dreamt it!

Who said that? Where did I say that? Your making things up mate.

I said, tongue in cheek may, that any Catholic coming to Scotland may be a bit miffed at 50,000 huns singing about the Virgin Mary's private parts.

Never understood how Amoruso and the like put up with it. Many Catholics who played football for those animals left the club and started blessing themselves at their new club.......Novo is the exception.

I personally do not wish to connotate Celtic with internal abuses, hypocrisy and ridiculous wealth despite the socialistic nature of Christ’s teachings (if as you say Celtic has a continuous connotation with Catholicism).

I have no problem with history. The issue is suggestions religion has any bearing on the reception of a manager.

I disagree. The goodness of Celtic’s foundations will always be apparent in the club’s identity (and that is apparent thought its charitable efforts and general position on things).

Like it or not, Celtic will always be associated with Catholicism. Nobody or nothing will ever change that.

And that's coming from a Bill Oddie :celt_2:

I do not know what it means either as I never used nor never will use the term.

IMO it only serves to exposes the fickleness we have in our ranks.

I opposed Lenny getting the job but now that he has, I think he deserves a crack of the whip without jumping on his back at first opportunity.

Tell your wife to google it mate :50:

i know you did,nt say that , just your comments " he,s irish , catholic and he hates rangers" should not be boxes that require ticking in the process of recruiting a celtic manager and the fact you mention it implies it is important to you , i only used jock stein as the outstanding example of the contrary of your comments above .

Well he was definately a Rangers fan before he signed for us. His dad took him to games and is a big Rangers fan too. His mum is a tim though.

Did Paul Lambert play in the Motherwell Flute Band when he was younger? I heard this years ago dont know if it was true or no not that it really matters as he went on to be a Celtic legend.

Paul Lambert is a tim. It's not about what he sang before and how he was raised, it's the unwilling affection you gain when playing for Celtic that will go all the way to a deathbed.

tell you what folks if any player in the current squad had the will to win, and the class that lambert had ,we,d of had the league in the bag well before now, look at his tackle on jim leighton and see a real captain at work ....the current squad should be using players like lambert as an example...a real winner with a european cup in his swag bag to boot...not that trophys count so much ..look at sammy..lol

Religion, regardless of history or tradition, has no place in a sporting event. We're talking about sport here. Family entertainment.

Religion need not apply here. To try and add it to it is quite sad and possibly dangerous.
