I really don't like the Daily Mail , but that write up was well worth reading . It shows how times have changed socially , I suppose people who worked in the shipyards/trades had set holidays , and there was virtually no flexibility with days off .

GLASGOW is set to become green and white towards the end of May this year as we plan a host of events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our greatest ever achievement - when Celtic became the first British Club to win the European Cup.

The Club’s triumph in Lisbon on May 25, 1967 is a hugely important part of Celtic’s history and an integral part of the club's identity, defining Celtic as one of Europe’s leading football clubs.

Led by the great Jock Stein, 11 men all born within 30 miles of Celtic Park took on European giants, Inter Milan, in the heat of Lisbon. They deservedly won the match and with it the honour of lifting the famous European Cup, the biggest trophy in Club football.

It is hard to believe it is half a century since that wonderful day and to mark this every special anniversary, and this most special of achievements, the Club, in due course, will be announcing a number of events to celebrate the Lions and all they have done for the Club.

We are sure fans from all over the world will be wanting to make their way to the city to take part in these event. Already the Club has been inundated with calls from fans looking to be part of the celebrations.

Together, the Celtic family will paint Glasgow Green and White as we honour the Lions, as we thank our fans and as we Celebrate Celtic.

We will be in a position to confirm all events which will run from 24th-28th May 2017, culminating in the previously announced Legends match at Celtic Park, when two other Celtic greats, Henrik Larsson and Lubo Moravcik, will play their own part in these celebrations.

IN addition to the events taking place in Glasgow, Celtic FC Foundation are delighted to announce a unique London event, to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Celtic’s majestic European Cup triumph in Lisbon. A celebration of the Lisbon Lions – the irreplaceable Jock Stein and his team of legends.

The one-of-a-kind fundraiser – Lisbon Lions London - will take place on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 in the Great Room of the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane.

On May 25, 1967 a group of Bhoys born within a 30-mile radius of Celtic Park defeated Italian giants Inter Milan 2-1, to lift the magnificent European Cup. They roared in the tunnel, they savaged Inter on the pitch.

The setting was Lisbon’s Estadio Nacional. In an impossible romance, the Celtic team stole a kiss of the trophy before any English side, seven years before a German team and a quarter of a century before Barcelona.

It will commence at 5.30pm when guests will have the opportunity to relive the match highlights - in the company of some of the Lions – in celebration of the greatest achievement in our illustrious history.

The Gala will also include a Q&A session with the Lisbon Lions, premium live entertainment, a galaxy of special guests from the worlds of sport music and entertainment, auction, silent auction, prize draw and three-course meal.

All funds raised on the night will support the work of Celtic FC Foundation – primarily in Glasgow and London - which aims to improve Health, promote Equality, encourage Learning and tackle Poverty.

Lisbon Lions London will be hosted by the irrepressible Eddie Jordan. A lifelong Celtic fan and a major supporter of the work of the Celtic FC Foundation.

Eddie said: “It’s a great honour to have been asked to play a role in this event. We will commemorate and celebrate in equal measure as only Celtic fans know how. We have a wonderful bill of entertainment lined up for the event, so watch this space for the news as excitement builds towards the big night.”

A number of packages are now on sale to supporters, on a first come, first served basis, and further details are available by calling 0141 551 4262 or emailing cfcfoundation@celticfc.co.uk

The year 1967 means so much to the Celtic Family. It was the extraordinary triumph of a club formed for the maintenance of dinner tables for the children and the unemployed. In short, an institution created to provide meals for the poor.

The memories of that historic day ensure the true glory and the joy live on in the collective soul of the Celtic support. The briefest mention of Lisbon inspires a mixture of wonder, gratitude and abiding joy.

Lisbon. 1967. Jock Stein. The Lions. The experience of a lifetime and the greatest achievement in world football.

The greatest team in the history of British football, and on the most cohesive attacking units the game has ever seen . Astounding football.

During the 1966/67 season Celtic won every competition that we entered. Our success and dominance exceeded our own borders and culminated with the European Cup triumph: forever etching 25th May 1967 and the immortal Lisbon Lions and Jock Stein into the hearts of all Celtic fans of all generations.

50 years on from that momentous, record-breaking season we are constantly reminded of the Lisbon Lions' triumph; and not just because of the landmark anniversary. The Celtic team of today have recently surpassed the Lions' remarkable 26 match unbeaten, domestic run and look unstoppable as we push for a clean sweep domestically. Moreover, we do so with the 'pure, beautiful, inventive football' that Stein demanded and received from the Lions.

With a buzz around Celtic Park that has been unrivalled for years, all Celtic fans look ahead with excitement as we cheer on the current crop in their attempts to emulate the domestic success of '67, all the while being embroiled in nostalgia. Events to commemorate the Lisbon Lions will unfold as we draw closer to 25th May and today the Green Brigade launch a fan project to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Celtic's greatest achievement.

Not forgetting the current team, we will mark our modern-day record-breakers' League Title presentation fixture with a full-stadium tifo in commemoration of Lisbon 1967. On another famous night in our club's history, the Celtic support rallied together to fund a full stadium tifo to mark the 125th anniversary of Celtic's foundation. The Celtic support generously donated over £10,000 which produced a tifo almost as iconic as the Celtic 2-1 Barcelona score line of that night. For the landmark anniversary approaching we will pull off another full stadium spectacle.

The Green Brigade will forever be indebted to the Celtic support for your financial backing, endorsing of our efforts and ideas, and general moral support. Once again, we ask the Celtic support to prove why - just like the Lisbon Lions - we are world renowned.

Any funds remaining will be put to further Lisbon commemorations and/or a Scottish Cup Final tifo.
