    Was the Legia player who was ineligible not banned due to having received a red in the Europa League the season previously I'm sure? Therefore in that case I'm guessing Van Dijk will be banned for one game.

    Champions league
    With champions league if a player gets a let's say 3 match suspension for a horrendous tackle right in the final then yes the suspension is carried over to next season. But if a player just gets a red card and no suspension as part of it then it's not carried over. This applies even when the player changes clubs.

    He is trying to point out that the players suspension as a result of a red card from the 13/14 EL carried over to last seasons CL.

    Matthews:In the first game against Inter we tried to play like we did in the Premiership in Scotland and against better opposition you just can’t do that.

    “Sometimes Emilio Izaguirre and I were caught up the pitch at the same time and they punished us for that. We had a meeting after it and agreed if one of us goes forward the other one tucks back.

    “That made sure we were far more compact in the second leg. There were no gaps between us. That forced them to go round the outside and play crosses into the box.

    “In that situation, we know we can defend crosses. I think we have learned from our games in the Europa League and will be well placed going into our European games now.”

    Is that no bread an butter stuff for a defensive unit? One goes up the other stays back. We got taught that at 14! Why does it take a lesson from Inter to sort that kinda basic stuff out? * me, after Legia ripped us a new one that was blatantly obvious...never mind months doon the line....
