I'm pretty sure that we need Porto to win the cup on Wednesday, for us to be promoted to the Playoff stage.

On Wikipedia it says:

"If Porto win the cup
Their place in the group stage is vacated. They lose all entitlement to this place, even if they are knocked out out of the Champions League and re-enter the Europa League. Their place in the group stage is not automatically given to another team. This means that one more team is required to progress from the playoff round to the group stage. To do this:
• The domestic cup winners of associations 16 and 17 (Scotland and Bulgaria) are moved from the third qualifying round to the play-off round.
• The domestic cup winners of association 29 (Republic of Ireland) are moved from the second qualifying round to the third qualifying round.
• The domestic league runners-up of associations 33 and 34 (Latvia and Moldova) are moved from the first qualifying round to the second qualifying round.

If Braga win the cup and qualify for the Europa League play-off round by their domestic position

• The domestic cup winners of association 16 (Scotland) are promoted from the third qualifying round to the play-off round. "
However, Braga haven't qualified for the Europa League play-off round by their domestic position.

So if Porto win the cup, and we win ours on Saturday, then we should head straight to the Playoff round. But otherwise we'll be in the 3rd qualifying round.

Luckily Porto are big favourites to win the cup, and we're big favourite to beat Motherwell too, so hopefully we'll be alright. Would be good if we could avoid the Third Round qualifier, give us a bit more time to prepare for the Playoff.

I think for the 12/13 season we lose the 10,000 or so co-efficient points Rangers gave the SPL by getting to the UEFA Cup Final. If that is the case we'll probably only get one CL spot with the Champions entering the Second Qualifying Round or something like that.

It all depends on how we do in the CL/EL this year aswell. If say we got to the quarters of the Europa, Huns got to last 16 CL and dundee utd/hearts both got to the group stages of the europa i'm sure we keep two. Also we've got next season for both teams to try qualify for the europa.

Ever since this non champions path has been introduced it's * us on two occasions.

Im sure Braga have qualified for the Europa League play-off round by their domestic position?

The huns would be in the Champions path this year. With Champions from smaller countries and worse leagues. But we were in non champions with 4th place teams from England, Spain etc

I think and hope so. Fulham are qualified for it as well I heard because of some 'Fair Play League'. But they enter in the First Qualifying Round.

And I agree Ciaran^ this non-champions and champions path crap has been *. But then again, it does get more actual 'champions' into the Champions League.

Champions League IMO should be for Champions only and maybe the second place team from England, Germany, Italy and Spain.

This would improve the Europa League no end.

With Porto winning the Europa League does that mean we go into the play-offs?

It says on Wikipedia the draw date for the play-offs is the 5th August incase anyone wanted to know.
