I dont think it is that easy mate. We need to play a system we know how to play. If we want to play more defensively i think we need to do it, or close to it domestically to be used to it. Like the huns do.

We are playing the way we do as we completely demolish everyone in scotland with our system.

I would agree that we should have 2 cdm's though. And a better lb and cb.

We never have to defend in scotland so no wobder it must be q complete and utter shock for our team

I get the logic here but honestly, we should be able to coach the team to play defensively. Players go on international duty and can adapt to different systems, especially defensive ones.

It’s a choice not to do it and it needs to be questioned at this point. No excuse not to begin trying conservative counter-attacking football against Atalanta.

I agree he needs to be more pragmatic. But there's also some other parts to blame too.

Players wise they need to do their job first and foremost. If the players on the park realise things aren't working then mcgregor should imo be rallying round and getting the team to sit back a bit more rather than chasing the ball like a headless chicken himself. Taylor has to be able to make a 5 yard pass. Maeda can't be doing a cruyff turn on the edge of his own box etc.

The tactics need altered yes, but players also need to be able to do the basics right. Which as I've said elsewhere even if we sit back and try to counter we will still need to be better on the ball and more composed or the same results will happen.

I seen someone said earlier Stuttgart beat Dortmund 5-1 so what would they do to St Johnstone, Sparta Prague drew 1-1 with Stuttgart in Stuttgart last night and let’s be honest that’s a team if we had at home would really be expected to win all 3 points

    Watching the game back.

Our midfield posted missing, especially Engels, and their boy Brandt running the show.

Brandt was insane. And McGregor went chasing him, made it worse.

Had no choice but to go and try and close down, especially when * pot noodle nut in front of him was trudging aboot like he was out for a Sunday job - and that's WHEN he could be arsed actually moving his legs.

Stuttgart have been excellent the last year or so to be fair. But they lost their best player in Guirassay to Dortmund who scored 2 last night.

Bochum took 2 off of them on Friday and lost 4-2, but they were a bigger threat. We weren’t a threat or a stubborn opponent. We were just open, very open and easy to play against. And trrrified on the ball.

Definitely, Calmac has that in him when things go wrong he tries to do everyone’s job and it makes him do nothing instead.

The lack of a DM option is haunting us again, having one to come in, and pushing him up one would have been a major help last night

We play with no DM, and that killed us last night.

Well, that and leaving 30 years between the backline and the keeper of two or three of the fastest players in world football to run through into (against an extremely slow backline together). And almost every single player forgot that they had testicles, and forgot how to pass a ball to the main in green and white.

Trusty is quite quick, he’s not slow, we just didn’t decide to pay attention to Adeyemi and he had free reign to get into those sort of positions. McGregor is the 6, which comes with defensive responsibilities as well. Not a true DM, but we don’t have any option in there that could go into that role.

You’re spot on though. With all of that.

Yeah, Trusty is quick as is AJ (and Valle) but when you leave THAT amount of room against the fastest guys alive, even Usain Bolt looks slow when he's trying to race a Ferrari.

McGregor was indeed playing deepest but as I've said since last night, when the two midfielders ahead of him are absolutely anonymous then he's gonnae be dragged out of position everywhere. Look at Engles for the first goal - tries to put in the most powderpuff challenge onto Adayemi (i think) just before the half way line.

Kind of shows our level that two of those seasons were in the Europa, and two were with Lennon!

Give or take the obvious issues over the last decade, I'd much, much rather be in the Europa, CL is utterly depressing outside the money, which we rarely spend.

We’ve gaslit ourselves into thinking it’s about money. We could spend as much as we possibly could, and the money gap would still be there. It’s mentality and approach that makes it embarrassing like it was last night
