just wondering what your reason is for supporting celtic

most of my mates are liverpool fans and they all say to me you only support celtic cause you are a catholic which is not the case no matter how many times i tell them.

what got me intrested in celtic was Henrik Larsson when i was younger he in my opinion was one of the best strikers in the world after watching him i was hooked, of course it wasnt just him otherwise i would of supported barca when he left but he was a big part.

I started supporting Celtic in 1997', luckily Celtic won the League that season & stopped Rangers getting 10 in a Row, I was only 10 at the time so never really understood just how big that was for the Club, I do now obviously but at the time I never, was just happy my team won the League..

I say the reason I got supporting Celtic was because my big Cousin was a Celtic supporter & would give me his old tops, & basically just took off from then, my Uncle worked on a Celtic & Rangers stall at the barras, & he used to give me alot of flags, scarfs etc.. & like the O.P I to started looking up to Henrik Larsson & got more & more into the team..

I started buying the Celtic View, & buying my own football strips, not my cousins old strips & buying books & videos on the club & gradually got to know more about the Club & just fell in love with them really, & its coming up for 13years Ive supported them & I wouldn't change for the world..

I Spose at the start, (when you are young that is), you support a club because some of your family members do, you don't really understand the meaning of really supporting the club, its not until you grow up abit, you start to see what the club means to you..

Of course, because growing up with anyone who happened to support another team would have been such a tragedy.

I support Celtic because of their incredible history, because of the devotion of millions of fans around the world, because of the play of wee little Aiden and the King of Kings Henrik Larsson before him, because of the devotion and love players are bound to have after becoming a Bhoy, because they're the team for rebels, because they're the Bhoys, there connection with Ireland and because they aren't a club who gives into greed (Chelsea, Man City) and because they consume everyday of my life (in a good way). Hail! Hail! Mon the Hoops.

Tell your friends to stop talking *.

I haven't always supported Celtic as my family led me down a different path when I was young but as an * the club gradually reeled me in.

For a while I didn't support any team and felt a bit alienated from football but I began to be drawn towards Celtic. Rangers were the team winning all the trophies and dominating at the time but Celtic were always a more interesting and more fascinating club to me.

I love the passion of the Celtic fans(where is it now?) and the way they always supported their team to the bitter end even in the face of Rangers dominance.

I also loved the way Celtic had a knack for scoring last minute winners. There is nothing in football I love more than a last minute winner and Celtic were/are the masters at it.

I love the green & white hoops, I think it is an iconic strip and the smartest in world football.

I love our stadium and the atmosphere it holds when there's a big game.

I love the fact that Celtic is a club open to all races and religions unlike the flute blowers across the Clyde.

I love that Celtic have a tradition for playing attractive, attacking football. Even when Rangers were doing 9 in a row Celtic stuck by that philosophy of trying to win but win the right way. I find that highly admirable and something we should cherish. This was why I disliked Gordon Strachan so much, he destroyed that philosophy with his tedious style of play.

I love that Celtic is more than just a football team. I like that we have links to Ireland and that the club has a history bound in charity and helping the working class/poor. Supporting Celtic, for me, says something about what kind of person you are and what your beliefs are in life. You can't say that about many clubs.

I love some of the players Celtic have had down the years. Larsson, Moravcik, Boruc etc all great players and characters in their own way.

I love the Celtic 'family'. Go anywhere in the world with your hoops on and I guarantee somebody will talk to you like they've known you for years just because you're wearing the Hoops. I love that.

There are just so many reasons to support Celtic and to love supporting Celtic. Supporting Celtic was one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life if not THE best. Mon the Hoops! :celt_2:

My grandad was from the east end of Glasgow, he passed it on to my dad then him to me. I supported Newcastle (local team) when i was very young because all my mates did, but my dad finally showed me the light!

Because my Grandad, Dad and brother did/do. I was 4 and asked my Dad what team I supported, he told me to pick and I said Celtic because he said that they were the best.

I also echo some of the sentiments given by Markybhoy.

Well, being in the States, "soccer" as we call it isn't the most popular sport here. But I was drawn to the game when the last world cup came and went.

I decided on Celtic as my family and I are very proud of our Scottish and Irish roots, so Celtic seemed like a dead no brainer, there!

    I cannot say I am a Celtic supporter per se, certainly not on 17 December in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Vienna</st1:City></st1:place>
    :84:

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p>But I like the club somehow. I like it because it is connected to <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">Ireland</st1:country-region></st1:place>, because it is a club of the (partly?) oppressed, not one of the vain upper class. That’s why I would never sympathise with Rangers. <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
And there are nice people on this forum, that’s another reason…
