on one of the sunday papers (NOTW i think) it mentioned how davis and bougherra could leave for peanuts thanks to the same rule webster used. I think we should be careful as didnt some of our best signings sign 4 year contracts? kayal, hooper etc.

Is it not something to do with buying yourself out your contract when there's a year remaining?

Article 17 allows a player under the age of 28 to walk away from his club after three years of his contract, or, for a player aged 28 or over, after two years

Doubt too many players in the Celtic squad would want to buy out their contracts!?!

Most contracts Celtic sign players to have a 1 year option for the club at the end of it, I think its a way of the club keeping themselves safe from this rule.

Our top players should be tied down NOW to longrt term contracts. We can afford to increases the wage bill if it means we need less of a transfer budget.

Certainly not something we need to worry about at the moment anyway. I'm sure a few years down the line we will have already had great offers for them

I think Scott Brown is the one guy in our team that could exploit the rule..
from the point of view that he's already 3 and a half years through a 5 year deal..

After 3 years of the contract, regardless of when it finishes, it is considered unprotected and the player can buy out the remainder of their deal including the 1 year option.

Only players on bad terms with their clubs would go down this path tbh because i think the player has to serve the club with 30 days notice and other things that gives the club a fighting chance to resolve the issue but it does give more bargaining power to the player with contracts.
