Mick is set to take exits to nine and boost kitty. Neil Lennon is ready to start spending to bring glory back to Celtic – after more than £200,000 was knocked off the weekly wage bill from the end of last season.
With Artur Boruc about to complete his £2million move to Fiorentina, Stephen McManus set to move to Middlesbrough for a similar sum, and Aiden McGeady expected to be next as Aston Villa head the race for his signature, the new boss could soon have a war chest of around £14million.
Lennon has been told by the Parkhead board that whatever money he can generate from sales and moving players off the wage bill will be given to him to re-invest.
So far, seven players who were drawing wages from the club at the end of last season have moved on: Robbie Keane, Edson Braafheid, Landry N’Guemo, Diomansy Kamara, Lee Naylor, Zheng Zhi and Koki Mizuno.
Boruc and McManus are expected to follow within the next 24 hours – the keeper’s transfer to Serie A will be finalised after he undergoes a medical, while the former captain is inching closer to agreeing personal terms with Boro – which opens the door for the changes Lennon believes he has to make to put Celtic back on a competitive footing.
He has already recruited three Bosman signings in Charlie Mulgrew, Cha Du-Ri and Joe Ledley. But that still leaves a surplus in wages of more than £160,000 per week.
If McGeady joins the exodus, that will free up a further £25,000 – plus another £10m to spend in the transfer market.
Lennon already knows which areas of the side are his priority, and who he wants to fill the spaces which have been created.
Mexican full-back-*-midfielder, Efrian Juarez, would cost around £2.5m, and Lennon is hopeful the hard work being done behind the scenes to land the 22-year-old World Cup star will come to fruition soon.
But an experienced central defender remains top of the shopping list, with Sol Campbell still considering the offer of a two-year deal.
However, Sunderland are serious about challenging Celtic for his signature, and boss Steve Bruce hopes to get an answer from the 35-year-old before the former Arsenal star heads off on honeymoon this weekend.
Meanwhile, full-back Graham Carey – who impressed while on loan at St Mirren last season – is wanted by Huddersfield on a similar deal.

no we can't...perhaps one big signing but not two in the £6m bracket. You have to think of the whole package

no chance unless desmond gives lennon the extra money then we could but not with the "war chest" that lennon has if mcgeady goes.

Imagine spending our whole budget on one single player and he was injured all the time... madness.

I know i am being a bit over optimistic but get mc geady on his way and buy a top 6-8 mill striker on a full time basis. Its great to know we can actually do this . Compared to the clowns across the city.

That still leaves 6 mill for other possible signings.

For me this has to be one of the most confusing summer transfer windows in recent history. I mean whos safe? what formation will we play? who will be captain? who will be in goals? ... Its exciting and draining at same time I just cant wait til the first ball gets kicked and we can see whats what.

Its not so much the transfer fee(which itself is huge), but the collosal wage demands...say even if he wwent to £50,000 a week, we still have to pay apperance fee, goal fee, win bonus, and other kinds of fees. It's not just as black and white as "oh theres £6m to you man city and theres £50 grand a week to you Craig".

There's no rule saying he can't give the club money. PLC or not.

You will find out soon in the pre season friendlies because Lennon will be putting what he thinks is his strongest team at the minute out with the cl qualifier looming . These games will not be friendlies for us.

£14 million to replace a big chunk of the team is still a big ask imo. That is a GK, a proper goalscorer, CB, winger. Looks like it's going to be a few more free transfers and hopefully a good £3-4 million ona goalscorer and midfielder.

I do the think that a big signing will be made. I honestly dont think that we even need to replace Mick if we sign Campbell. We may or may not replace Boruc. I think we def have enough in Midfield to do without McGeady. I mean if Maloney has a good pre season then imo he will be a better player throughout the season.

That leaves the striking department and when you look at it we really only have 3 strikers of reckoning and 1 of them I want rid of.

Lets see who they bring in. I would imagine Lenny is looking to have all his transfer dealings done before the first Euro Qualifier.

of course not...but he would have to increase his stake in the club which he is not willing to do at the minute. You cant just donate £5m to be spent on players though...if thats what you're claiming.

We definately need a new keeper, new centre half and that would hopefully leave cash available for a big named striker, obviously Keane is the dream buy but not sure how much he wants it never mind what we can afford, I have a good feeling about it though .... to be fair I had a good feeling last season!!

I'm interested to see where this money will be spent. I do think we need to go after Keane or Bellamy and add accordingly after that is set. We still have a few wingers that can play assuming we don't buy another one.
