the champions league qualifiers are upon us and we havent signed anyone other than big ff , so lets put that aside , i think that our squad is more than strong enough to win this league at a canter , i dont know the figures but in say the last 10 years if we have quaified for the champions league how many times have we got out of the group stages , once ? , i think with the demise of rangers this is the exact time we shouldnt be spending money on transfers , this is the time to promote youth , our club is in the elite nextgen competition with some of our young stars getting rave reviews and more than holding our own against some of europes finest , in years gone past it has been really difficult to blood youngsters although granted we have had a few ,into the first team because we needed to stay just ahead of rangers or needed to keep right on their tails , i think we will have more opportunity now to blood some more and let them flourish , id rather develop a raw talent thats came through our youth system now than go out and risk another couple of million on another bangura (hope he comes good but geessoohh), now i know this wont be the popular view but i believe its time to develop our youth into the first team , obviously not all at once , times are tough now more than ever ,we must cut our cloth accordingly , whos to say we dont have another exceptional talent in our nextgen team , if we are to sign anyone our policy now for signing youth is the right way forward for our club now... i wish we could afford to sign a superstar but who is going to join our club now that is going to take us to the next level for the money we can afford , live within our means , promote youth and keep our unbroken proud history .... now go ahead and shoot my post down lol....

I agree that we need to promote the youth and that now is the time to do it but we are In a situation where we need to use this time to try and progress in Europe and with the big gap between us and the rest of the spl we can afford to rest players before big games and blood some youth gradually.
If we go to just promoting youth I believe we won't progress in Europe to after Xmas so we need to still be looking to be signing players to improve the starting line up without risking the clubs strong financial position

I feel the need to point out this spelling error!! Seriously though, a basic level of punctuation and good writing should be mandatory for these forums as far as i'm concerned. If not, back to school, guys! You don't have to be wealthy- wealth has nothing to do with ability to write neatly and coherently.
Don't have an english degree myself, by the way.:38: I just don't want my head fried by trying to decipher messy text.

So you're asking me if I agree that we shouldn't buy anyone and forget European ambition because bar a miracle, we'll win 4IAR, without any challenge, before any chance of Sevco appearing in the SPL? All for the sake of doing something we've already done under Lennon i.e introducing young players into the first team but actually giving them even more games? Not a * chance but sadly more Celtic supporters will develop your point of view, as apathy truly kicks in and one day we may find ourselves celebrating reaching the Europa League group stages and this time without Swiss courts saving the day.

Some pretty snyde comments in here about the guys literary skills - catch a grip of yourselves ffs. :38:

To the OP - I believe we need to buy as well as promote.

We need to buy and need to buy carefully players that will make an adequate difference to the quality of our team if we are to have a hope of competing in the group stages should we get Champions League proper.

But, we have a youth academy system that costs us upwards of £1m per year. We should be looking to promote at least 6 players per season to first team and hope to find ourselves a few players.

you shouldt let what is going on at rangers dictate what goes on at celtic . we need champions league football to get the crowds back , make up for revenue losses , and to attract a better calabre of player . it is a must for us , if we fail to make the group stages it will be a disaster , and lennon knows it . we should have invested weeks ago.

It is a tough one, and I see it as a bit of a balancing act. I think investing in youth is all good and well but I also think that in not spending we are pretty much writing off hopes of European progress. Simply put, I just do not think we are good enough to play at champions league level without spending some money. This doesnt mean ignoring youth of course but for me the most sensible thing to do would be to sell Ki for £6m then use the money to sign a defender and a striker, even at £2m each and pay down the debt with the rest. But to chop our squad to the extent we have while not signing a new face is pretty risky in my opinion.

I would also say regarding youth that we are in a very fortunate position being the biggest team in the SPL. We effectively have access to every youth side in Scotland and you would imagine there must be some talent out there we can use to fatten up our squad a bit.

So I half agree. Yes to youth, but we cannot rely on youth 100%. We need to buy experience also.

    TRUE

the OP's point is valid, this is the time to play the kids this season. If we get into the champions league, i hope the promising kids get as much game time as possible.

By that I mean at least 10 plus games this season. We should be fielding a reserve side in the cup competitions and keep the first team fresh for europe and tougher league games.

if we can bring through a nucleus of the next side, much like what ferguson did at united in the nineties, that will stand us in good stead.

There is too many fans advocating panic buying, for the sake of it.

The problem we have seen, from Martin O'neill thru to strachan and beyond is that we are not yet consistently qualifying for europe, year in year. By that I mean champions league.

It is vital for the club, that we use the next three years to develop the youth players so they are all regular first teamers, in three years time, sell our current stars for the highest available fee, when our kids are ready to replace them.

That is the model we should be following.
