The future...

So, they go into administration, without finding another buyer, they sink.

Where does that really leave us? As much as I'd like to celebrate this, and putting hatred aside do we really want them to be wiped off the map?

Same goes for Hearts who look like they are next for the chop..

For the next half decade at least...
A Celtic without an arch rival.
A Celtic without additional tv revenue?
A Celtic with no real challenger/opponent to the title?

When will the other teams step up and become title contenders? Not in the short term.

I'm really hoping Lawell has an action plan in place to get us OUT of Scotland for good and into another league system. Even if that doesn't happen soon, as long as we get out of here. A Celtic team needs a challenger. It encourages us to improve as a team and as a club.

I think we will continue to develop, win the league every year and try and do well in Europe, nothing will change apart from we wont need to strengthen our side as much because the league will be in the bag and all that will be expected of us is to do Decent in Europe (enough to keep a Champions League qualifying spot)

 

They wont go under,but * them,lets rejoice when we were in a similar situation..al be it not as bad as them no tears were shed,you didnt here a hun worrying about there future,we are completly and utterly financialy sound and will continue to be.The only thing i would miss would be the games against them but hey..i can live with out it.

Naively optimistic, imo. Time to suck some EPL *.

 

The future long term will be bleak , without even talking sponsirship and season books ,players will not want to come here or the ones we bring through will not hang around to long , we will stagnate as a club until another aberdeen or dundee utd come along , but how long will that take, am afraid we need a serious challenge to keep interest from players coming to fans flocking to tv and sponsorship .

We can all have our moment now but when its gone and around us is an apocalypse of waste that is scottish football.
I hate to say but in truth i dont want them away ,no one will look in our direction without the big game and the only time we will draw any attention is playing in europe, but dont expect us to progreas much without a domestic challenge .

 

The thing I'm worried about is if players will really come to us after that. They'd only be getting glory in Europe, and I don't think we'd exactly be reaching the finals every year...

 

Some people should read and adsorb this post. Spot on. The feeling I had of 'GIRFU' a few hours ago is already starting to fade the more I think about the whole situation.

I am curious as to what he means though, I dont buy the argument we need rangers but he cant possibly think we could be a force in europe playing in this league surely :S

think lawell knows that they will still be around as this is to get rid of the debt in the hope they will come out the other side and be a stronger force. hopefully not

 

If there is no huns, we will lose out on £3/4million a season from ticket sales, domestic TV and sponsorship.

But if there are no huns there is a clear path to the £15milllion of Champions League money year after year. And with that Champions League football and money we will still attract and afford a good squad of players.

Rosenborg and Copenhagen are 1 team Leagues although Hearts sized clubs so they dont always win it but do more often than not and its never done them any harm.

 

My problem is that competition breeds ingenuity, it breeds efficiency. Without a reasonable Rangers at least pushing us for maybe half a season then there will be no competition in the SPL.

I do not buy into the argument that if Rangers were to go bust that a team will take their place, Aberdeen? Dundee United? Hearts? I cannot see any of these teams mounting a realistic challenge at all.

The argument for consistent champions league spots is again a risky one, this season if we win the league we have 2 rounds albeit in the easier section of the draw. Yet the season after its 3. If the only time of the season we face real crunch ties that are at the very beginning of our calendar year then shocks could quite easily occur, Sion/Braga/Bratislava.

My concern if Rangers disappear from the picture is the lack of big games in the SPL and the ability to cope with big game pressure that new players may need to experience. The qualifiers always come early just after pre-season and while not many teams in the Champions section should give us much of a worry there is always a chance of a slip up.

I love to see Rangers struggle i really do, im sitting here right now with a massive grin on my face, yet here is the question i put to you, would you rather the Huns didn't exist and we win the league by lets say 15 points, or would you rather have a title decider going down to the last few games and having Helicopter Sundays that go our way.

 

As a Celtic supporter located in the States i understand that for most of you seeing Rangers and their fans go through this first hand, in Scotland, is probably awesome, but I believe those of us who are looking from afar have a more realistic view on the whole situation. I hate Rangers as much as the next tim but without them in the SPL it will do nothing but hurt our league and therefore hurt Celtic.

 

Interesting points. I fear for our long term future. However, reports on the contrary suggest that they could retain their premier league status even after administration, allbeit, they will be a much weaker team. I for one, would prefer them to stay in the SPL....as our *.

 

Anyone heard the talk about this North Atlantic league that's a possibility?
