Dat grand old team at the end of the video, sender shivers down my spine.

To have been part of that.

I started watching football in late 1994, had no idea any of this went on until I was much much older.

    Cheers Fergus :50::celt_2::shamrock:

Good listen there. Fergus was wrongly criticized at times but I think everyone can see what he has done now and I'm I reckon he is one of the most important people in our history.

Just a fan who seen an investment opportunity

The man came in and delivered 100% of what he promised . He deserves to be honoured in some significant way . I would opt for naming the North stand after him . I was sick of the old board ( remember the plans for a new stadium in Cambuslang ) , they were visionless . And they were more concerned about their own power and perks , than they were for the wellbeing of the club as a whole . I liked the cut of Fergus McCann's jib , and played my small part in the public floatation by investing my £620 in the original share issue .

Looking forward to Thursday's episode of Scotland's Game. Best piece BBC have produced in a long time.

And that's been a disaster for us... we can't afford genuine '£5 million' players anymore. We could try competing in the market, but we'd be going 'Sevco-way' within a couple of seasons... and without guarantee of any success whatsoever in that period.

So, we have to gamble in the 'futures' market now, and to be fair to the Board - they've done not too badly.

Sure, our club is not perfectly run... no club is, but I wish the fans with no sense of economics (or even common sense) would give our Board a bit of a break and appreciate what we have whilst we have it. I suspect that many of the current girners are the same folks who moaned and whined at every decision made by Fergus.

These are hugely difficult times to run a club of our size, in our league, with our levels of expectations. I wouldn't thank you for a place on our Board - pretty thankless task!

I just hope that the EPL bubble pops fairly soon and our Sleeping Giant is in position to rise from the fall-out as a sensibly run club who didn't financially dope!

Exactly. And he took a risk, he said he would leave in 5 years regardless, he was fortunate shares were at the price they were.

He's also said in interviews when people mention a figure that he actually put a lot more in than the 6 million that is usually quoted, throughout his time here. Not too mention he was a businessman who could be commanding a 7 figure salary elsewhere but was time committed to Celtic for 5 years.

Ofcourse he was ruthless, so is Alan Sugar, Donald Trump etc etc, Celtic needed stabilising financially, he was the man to do it and being ruthless and running a business was what he done. That is why history has been kind to him, because he created a solid future for the club

Said before i booed him on flag day, but that shows the difference between guys in the stand and people running the club, I would do anything to shake that wee guys hand, we are where we are as a club because of him and the fans.

He probably got a harder time of it because of what/how Rangers were doing at the time. They were obviously throwing cash about and hoovering up trophies while we suffered a fair bit. He also refused to play the media game, which won't have helped the coverage that shapes/distorts public perception.

At the end of the day, he revolutionised the club. He came in and made sound, sensible financial decisions. Not the warmest of characters, but just a good businessman who saved our club and set us on the path to where we are now.

I think when people talk about majority fan ownership for big clubs, I always think of Fergus as being the argument against. He had the balls to run the club properly and stick to his principles at a time when there was so much pressure from fans to spend money we didnt have. He highlighted the need for a rational and business minded leader over the whims of emotional fans.

Given what eventually happened to rangers, his position has been completely vindicated and he will go down as one of Celtics very best leaders. He will also probably go down as one of the last people to turn a profit from investing in Scottish football! The guy deserves a statue. Top man.

The very last question is interesting.

'How important to this plan is broad participation by supporters as shareholders?'

'I can't see it happening otherwise.'

We all had a hand in building Celtic to where it is today and we should all be very proud of that.

The stark difference in reaction to financial adversity between Celtic fans and Hun fans is one of the proudest moments of being a Tim for me.

If anyone ever needed a real life example of how Celtic fans love their club and Hun fans love to hate our club it's that.

They didn't care enough to dig their club out the hole it was in, we did. They should be eternally shameful.

Without doubt one of the most influential figures in Celtic's history.

Take away any personal supporter issues with him in regards to Rebs, or Wim Jansen et al, this guy is to modern Celtic, what Brother Walfrid was to the conception of Celtic and the Celtic of his generation.

An interesting watch here to see the utter classless, money-grabbing morons only interested in their own self-interests that we had to put up with leading our club doon the swannie before wee Fergus and his crew came in and rescued us from annihilation:

Most of it was the likes of McCann and Desmond though, Desmond especially as McCann walked away with a big profit. Desmond put up a lot of the money to pay for Celtic Park and almost all the money for Lennoxtown - no doubt if we are allowed the new Museum/Hotel etc stuff he'll probably put up a good bit of the money for that as well. Probably doesn't get enough credit.
