It's funny how its all 'fair play' with the bunnet and yet DD gets it absolutely stinking. I don't consider myself a board sympathiser but DD has put 10s of millions into this club with little to no return. He was here in the early days of Mccann and had plans in place to become the largest shareholder.

This thread actually got me thinking about it all. It honestly seems like Mccann was pure and simply a money man. He never used his money to do anything (they never do) and walked away with a huge profit. Everything Celtic done during that time was steered toward making us financially profitable and our shares mint. Even to the detriment of our team. He can talk about his love for us all he wants and I agree he probably did, however he knew fine well how much he'd make from it.

The fans were willing to invest, they just needed rid of the old board.

It's difficult to digest, he did come to our aid but he was no angel. If there was nothing in it and he had to be a benefactor like Murray was to them, he would not have been there.

The man took a risk with his own money when no one else would,no one would take that sort of risk for no reward.

Where the money sat during it all makes little difference if it had gone wrong the guy was still out millions.....can't fault the guy for making a profit.

It was that or celtic would have gone under.

John Keane kept the lights on well before McCann rode in to the rescue.

One million pounds of his own money and never took one dime out of the club.

Personally I couldn't give a * if he made 50 million, he left our Club in a far better state than he found it and laid the foundations for what we have now.
Anyway a Thistle would look pretty neat interwoven around a Celtic cross as a badge :icon_mrgreen:

Yeah, only dead clubs pretending to be the same need a new badge.

And for the umpteenth time he wasn't the only one who left the club in the state it's in.

Yes he did,and the guy is lucky he could afford to give celtic 1 million.

But the fact remains no one else was willing to risk the millions the bunnet did.

I don't know the ins and outs but if we came within a few hours of going bust he must've been brave enough to do something others weren't willing to do. Deserves credit for building the stadium too. The guy Keane sounds like a true fan to put in that money without expecting anything in return. I was all for Fergus having a stand named after him but I think such accolades should only be for people who the whole of the support agree upon.

Is a thistle the flower of Scotland or something? What's the significance of it?

When the english army came up for a wee party they stood on some thistles and cried like * and woke the sleeping scots army who then set about them and knocked * out of them due to the raging hang overs they all had.

    Something like that.

Thankfully the Celtic support of the time absolutely unequivocally opposed that thistle nonsense right at the source.

Stupid * idea that rightly got shelved.

You have made me think now though and the 125th Strip looked excellent just add The Celtic Football etc in and interwoven with a Thistle ...
