THE BOARD

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by celtsno1, Sep 1, 2008.

  1. I am not saying the board did lie?

But is it not their job to make us think everything is all good and rosey?

I'm at work here so really shouldn't be posting so much, but that article (THE SHARP SUITED SPIN DOCTOR) has absolutely no foundation.

Do people not realise that the "senior Celtic official" is a fabrication of the media? As in some ham-fisted blue-nosed Journo has typed that up for a laugh?

Equally interchangeable buzz-words by the media include - "a source", "contact", "insider", etc etc so please spare me this propaganda.

Hammer would have been better never opening the link and wouldn't have had to have read the biggest pile of drivel he has done in an age.

Do you want me to write an identical piece with the shoe on the other foot, post it on my website then link it here and say (Ellboy better shut his eyes lool)

If you believe we were ever going to sign 2 players that would cost over £30 million then you are an idiot pure and simple. If you believe the Celtic heirarchy would be stupid enough to release the false information knowing full well there would be this fall out then your equally as stupid.

What happened was the tabloid chip wrappers fabricated a couple of nothing stories knowing full well they'd fall through and we'd go for much cheaper targets. Then when that happened they'd have the Celtic fans up in arms over the boards apparent lack of financial strength to be able to go and buy their first targets.

Voila, the laptop loyal have won. The board are now useless and Mr Murray and his sidekick Bain are back in their not so righteous position as the 2 main men in town. :87:

No Hammer I didn’t believe it for one second but these rumours could easily have been quashed by a simple statement from Celtic. The fact is their was no denial.

However their was plenty of spin as to how we will be strengthening. Strange that really, how they allowed the feel good factor to grow legs without any real prospect of bringing in real quality.

I wonder why they did that? Season tickets and merchandise anyone. Hmmmm!!

We cant buy these players so why suggest we could, can you not see how that is deceitful.

I'd like to point out the fact that as Celtic are a PLC it is illegal for any member of the board to make public statements on the company that are untrue. Lawwell - who was getting so much praise a couple of weeks ago from most of you- is not stupid enough to make any such claims that could end up with him losing his job.

Him saying that they were trying to improve the squad for the CL is not a lie. In many ways it is hard to doubt that they have done this. They have gotten rid of Graveson and Sno, neither of who played and have brought in 5 players in exchange. We wanted a new centre back and they bought one. A new forward and they bought one. It is ahrd to debate that they haven't improved the squad this window.

What we have to realsie is that we won't have mega bucks to spend unless we sell one of our prized assets. Now Artur or Aiden are our most valued assets. We have just put them on big money 5 year deal that were roundly praised by most Celtic fans. We could sell either and bring in a couple of 5m players but who is to say that they'd be as good as what we let go? The closest relation to Scottish football is English and the prices in the EPL have doubled from what they were when MON bought in quality from down there - we haven't got twice as much to spend.

Rangers aren't a PLC, so Murray can decide how and when they spend their money. He realised after the sale of Cuellar that they'd have to spend every penny of it to stop their fans rioting, so they are now back to square one. Except their most saleable asset is McGregor now. If you sell your best player every year then most years that value of your best player will be less and less. It will be death of a thousand cut for them.

Yes strengthening the squad for the CL.

what good is strengthening the squad for the CL, when in the minimum 6 games in the CL we play, those 5 players will probably only make sub appearances, depending on suspensions and injuries.

strengthening a squad is only noticeable for a league, when if you have a few key players injured, you can bring in the back up who can do a job.

in europe that isn't the case, to compete in europe you need to strengthen the first team, a left back for example.

I have to say I'm disappointed and unhappy that we didn't get another signing. I'm not saying I didn't expect that outcome, because it was clear to me we wouldn't sign anybody else. though I hoped for a miracle.

I didn't want to sign big names, I wanted celtic to sign good players who could improve our squad. there are some areas seriously lacking quality which could be improved easily with £ 1-2 mio players. considered the financial health we are in at the moment, our board just looks greedy and stingy

WGS said we will only buy players who improve on what we have.

How do squad players do that?

    Exactly:50:

Well sorry for moaning etc, stressed at work lol:

I think Maloney and Samaras will have a bigger part to play in the CL than you think.

    Anyway,

I've always said Strachan and Lawwell knew we need a left back. But come one, when George McCartney moves for £4.5 million I think that tells a story about left backs in Europe at the moment...

Fair do´s we are all entitled to a moan now and again look at me ffs.

A ridiculous sum for a diddy, I think Higgenbottom was going to Stoke for 2.5 mil on the face of it not much money but when you consider he´s a diddy, quite a bit.:84:

As to Sammy and Shaun I think they will contribute no doubt just not at a higher level.

Shaun has more of a chance though IMO.

    I'm happy with the board.
We were £35million in debt now it's down to £3million.
I still think we'll win the league.

I doubt a decent LB better than Naylor could have been got for 1-2 million.

    £1-2 mio = 1.2 - 2.5 mio € (more or less)

now check out those transfers from the german bundesliga

    1.Bundesliga - Transfers 08/09 - transfermarkt.de

for example, Stephan Lichtsteiner has been the best RB in france (he got an award) last season and moved to Lazio this summer for 1.200.000 !!!!!

sometimes I get the impression our scouts are as dumb as * and don't know about the mainland! the english market is overpriced these days, we need to get our hands off that market!

our LBs in the last 3 seasons have been: Mo Camara, Lee Naylor..... quite impressive

Do we have scouts anymore? I thought WGS did all the scouting on his fancy satellite telly that he watches to 4 in the morning!
