NEIL LENNON is ready to swoop for Republic of Ireland ace Steven Reid.

The Blackburn Rovers midfielder was at Parkhead last night for talks as he tries to seal a shock switch.
Reid, who's been dogged by injuries, is available on a free.
Crystal Palace star Darren Ambrose could also be a target if Lennon lands the Hoops hotseat.
The caretaker gaffer - whose side take on German outfit St Pauli tonight - wants more British and Irish players.
Reid ended the season on loan at West Brom and the Baggies are keen to keep him.
The lure of linking up with Irish pals Aiden McGeady and Darren O'Dea at Parkhead would be strong, however.
Englishman Ambrose hit 20 goals from midfield for Palace last term as they dodged relegation from the Coca-Cola Championship.
The Eagles look set to cash in on the £1.5million-rated former Newcastle man this summer.
Wolves and QPR have been linked with moves for Ambrose but Hoops scouts have also watched him in action.

He's a great player and has a thunderbolt of a striker. I really like him. Him and Huddlestone both remind me a * of alot of each other.

Just hope he's got over his injuries.

Ooooft a free transfer aswell thats an absolute bargain.

Republic of Ireland midfielder Steven Reid had been identified as an economical Bosman signing after the 29 year-old had been informed by Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce that he would not be retained.
Although Celtic have yet to reveal the identity of sacked manager Tony Mowbray's successor or confirm that caretaker Neil Lennon will be given the job on a permanent basis, there are season-ticket books to be sold and many supporters are waiting to gauge the extent of the board's ambition before parting with their money.

Whether Reid would have been regarded as a marquee signing is a moot point after injury and loss of form restricted him to just 42 appearances for Blackburn in the previous four seasons.
He was considered to be surplus to requirements for much of 2009-10, spending periods on loan with Queens Park Rangers and West Bromwich Albion.
Reid helped the Baggies clinch automatic promotion to the Premier League by finishing behind champions Newcastle and he is having talks with manager Robert Di Matteo about moving to the Hawthorns, which is likely to price him out of a move to Parkhead.

this comment doesnt really make sense to me for 2 reasons

1.if reid was so bad on loan at WBA then why would they be trying to sign him now?
2.if koren is so good why did WBA release him?

it seems like robeto di matteo(who knows more than any of us) thinks reid is better and ill take his word over yours

Reid is excellent when fit and on a free there is no real risk financially if he has recurrences of his injuries. Cant be any worse than paying 2.5 mil for Maloney considering his inury problems.

If this story is true then i think all signs point at Lennon being the new manager, although surely it would have been announced by now

Are we signing players without a manager? Or is the board just * with us in the sense that they already have everything set up they just havent publicly appointed him.

What exactly does Brown offer when he bursts forward?

    1. The flip side is, if he was so good on loan why haven't they signed him already, he's a free agent.
    2. WBA stated that new/enhanced EPL rules relating to 'home grown' players played a part in their decision to release him, as did relocating resources to other areas of the squad. Additionally, Borja Valero has returned to WBA from his loan spell with Mallorca who decided not to sign him permanently.

Personally, I hope we give this guy a wide berth, we've had enough players this season who spent more time on the treatment table than on the pitch.

Take the Motherwell game where he was at the heart of a few assists by bursting forward, he had confidence, if he can score more goals he would be great, since the ross county game he has been 1 of our best players imo.

reid was excellent at west brom, its a pity his injuries have hampered him. the national side could have done with him during the WC qualifiers instead of whelan or andrews.

If's, but's and mibbies, Browns paltry scoring record is what it is.

A handful of games over three seasons is no real cause for optimism for me, and I can't see what having (or not having due to persistant injury) Steven Reid alongside him would do to change this.

He's our captain and he will need to deal with it, he was player of the year last season, if he hes a good partner in the centre, it could work out well.

He's had plenty of time to work on his scoring, he just dosen't seem to be able to read the game well enough, or shoot with accuracy.

SPL Player of the year for the 08/09 season was like winning best looking dog *.

Hartley, Robson & N'Guemo have all sat back often enough to let Brown move forward, I can't see how Reid doing the same would make any difference.

what happend when hartley and robson let brown burst forward, we where winning the league at that time, we just need a someone in the centre who is strong and likes a tackle, reid is a strong player, aint like weight like crosas, ki, etc.. I wouldnt mind signing him on a free.

If were going to look back Brown's first season, he was considered a let down by many supporters, however his mitigating circumstances were noted.

Signing this guy on a free is one thing, what about the premiership level wages? and his 40 games in four seasons, dont you see these factors as a large risk?
