Same old Celtic. Make noises about there being major signings in January so we can get the new players bedded in for the Champions League qualifiers then we end up with Leigh Griffiths and * all else.

Oh but we tried to sign this guy for big money and we tried to sign that guy for big money but we just couldn't get the deals done. * OFF. JUST * OFF. I've heard that excuse too many times now. The club really must think that fans heads button up the back.

Leaving aside the fact that Griffiths looks like something off of Star Trek, the fact that he's going to do nothing to solve our goalscoring problems in Europe and the fact that I don't want him at Celtic, I am seriously hacked off with the people running the club taking the supporters for mugs. In my mind there was NEVER any possibility we were going to make 2-3 major signings in this window with a view to next year's Champions League campaign. All that talk was hot air and nothing else.

Or are we supposed to believe that Leigh Griffiths is the big signing that we've brought in early to get him settled for next season's Champions League? Aye that'll be right, I can just see thumb boy tearing up the defences of Europe's elite right enough.

Pretty much every single transfer window we get lied to. The club talk the talk about signing quality players and drop hints about their being able to spend £6million on a player if they want to but when the dust clears the fans are left short changed for the umpteenth time. Then when it comes time to sell season tickets the lies begin again.

We all understand the need to keep the club on a solid financial footing but in the last 12 months we have crossed the line from financial prudence into being miserly. We've raked in a fortune and spent a mere fraction of it. The Celtic board - tight * to a man.

Well my message to the board is simply this.....................

If you think signing Leigh Griffiths is enough to keep this Celtic supporter happy or make him forget the shambles that was our Champions League campaign this year, a shambles that could have been averted by splashing some money on a PROPER striker, then you are sadly mistaken.

My attitude from now on is going to be support the players, not the board. :38:

We signed Johansen and Fridjonsson too.

Lets see what Griffiths can do, who knows he may well do a turn for us in Europe.

Who do you want them to sign FFS? We play in the SPL. No top player wants to come and play in a league like this.

I'd rather Griffiths than some mediocre European guff who couldn't hit a coo's * wae a banjo I.e Pukki

Sort yourself out and come back down to the real world!

I think players like stefanson or whatever that AZ player was called we actually tried hard to sign but AZ wernt selling. Arnautovic in the summer was almost a done deal but he refused to come to the SPFL.

It's not always the boards fault, although they are tight arsed *.

So we should just accept that when we're desperately in need of a quality goalscorer that Leigh Griffiths is the best we can get?

Sorry but * that. We need better, can afford better and deserve better.

    Agreed. :50:

We've signed three players this window, all reasonably young and talented... lets give them a chance.

It was always unrealistic to get Jóhannsson (different from our Johansen). He'll be at the World Cup, has only been at AZ for a year, and both he and the club know that a decent World Cup will see a better deal for both of them.

Agreed with the main point of the thread though. Don't even come out with the "we have 5-6m to spend" if you're not going to spend it. I think the reason Leigh Griffiths is disappointing isn't necessarily to do with him, it's that we were being linked to some of the top goalscorers in the Eredivisie and then we get a striker who's only scored one or two more than our own 20 year old central midfielder on loan in League One. A 20 year old midfielder whom has been spoken about in a bizarrely indifferent manner by our own manager no less.

We deserve butter! You're starting to sound like them. He'll be a great signing for us, mark my words.

I'm genuinely happy with this window bar Ledley leaving. Ok sure we signed a guy who looks like a thumb but he is a thumb who scores goals so let's give him a chance.

I agree, but our striker situation is getting a bit ridiculous. In the past 7 or so months we've signed four strikers, all around the same age. Then we've also cancelled the contract of another one who was signed fairly recently as well. We seem utterly incapable of developing strikers and it's annoying.

Been sold short every year for the last twenty years but people continue to buy season tickets and merchandise so why would the board do any different?

That's the whole thing. The club know exactly what they're doing when they start talking about making signings for the Champions League and saying they can afford to spend £6million on a player if they want to. They give the impression that something big is going to happen, or that real quality players will be arriving, then when the smoke clears we're left with an SPL level striker and a midfielder(who's arrival ends up being pretty much overshadowed by the possibility of Joe Ledley leaving).

The club do this all the time. It's infuriating. Particularly in light of how much money we've raked in over the last 18 months in transfer fees and Champions League money.

Griffiths could well come in and bang in a few goals for us in the league, I won't be surprised if he does, but the club specifically said they were going to bring in players for next year's Champions League campaign. Leigh Griffiths is not going to be the answer at that level, I guarantee it.

Agree 100%. Every Celtic supporter wants the newbies to succeed, cos if they don't we don't. But for a Team that NEEDS Champions League games to attract the Virgils of this world and keep Supporters interested, SPFL walkover does not and will not put bums on seats. To go out and buy LG for Europe ( Lenny said that in this window we needed to buy for the CL as the Qualifiers start 2 weeks after the World Cup Final) is a testament to how average our aims have become. Oh please let me be wrong !
