Scores a good goal now he's good enough for Celtic.

Keep loaning him out to other clubs and maybe he can still do a job for us scoring against other teams.

No more than a decent player & not worthy of keeping imo. Hopefully he continues to play well for St Johnstone though so we can make some cash from his sale.

I like him but I would reckon he will need another year on loan, hopefully with a slightly bigger SPL side like Dundee United. As a general rule I would give a young reserve player of promise until their 22nd birthday to prove they are good enough to at least be an important squad member. If not I would sell on. I think for example guys like O'Dea and Gowser are too old to live of being 'good prospects'. They should have moved on a couple of years ago to smaller sides more at their level.

I agree with almost all of that, except the O'Dea part, I think he has been improving lately with his run in the first team. Also you cant really judge a player until he hits mid-20's. McDonald at Sheridan's age was battling for playing time at the clubs like Wimbledon... I think he has a decent chance to be a first team regular in a year or two.

I wouldnt imagine he has a big future with us, I think a team like St J are maybe his top level.

I would love to be proved wrong however.

Aye but playing reserve football/the bench until you are 23 is very bad for development. I think if you are not good enough to be in the team by 21 you probably need loaned out. The only exceptions are players who have lost a year or two to very bad injuries young (Ferry, Grant, Liam Miller, Maloney etc). For them you could give them an extra couple of years.

However, a player like OD who is 24 next birthday would have made it if he was good enough. He has had a few decent enough games v wee teams lately but by and large he has been badly found out this season for us and Reading. He is just a younger, poorer, far less experienced clone of Mick as far as I can see. I would rather have Mick back than OD.
