Standing in the san siro 4 years ago now watching Celtic narrowly miss getting into the last 8 of the champion league. A time when great foreign teams were sent backing after a trip to paradise.

Little did I know at the time that this was as good as it was ever going to get for Celtic ever again unless something drastic happens. HOW I WILL MISS THESE TIMES.

We did this with an average playing squad. Not much better than we have now So whats the big difference between now and then.

THE MANAGER , THE PLAYERS MENTALITY, THE NEVER KNOW WHEN WE WERE BEATEN ATTITUDE. MORE HOME PLAYERS. OR WAS IT JUST LUCK.

LET ME KNOW YOUR VIEWS AND EVENTS THAT HAVE BUT ARE CLUB ON THIS * ROAD EVER SINCE .
WAS IT THE DEPARTURE OF WGS ARE BEST MANAGER IN RECENT YEARS. OR SOMETHING ELSE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR OPINIONS.

and we would have won the league last year if it hadn't been for refs

No one is giving up the op was asking what has happened this past 4 years.
Like why do we keep giving Rangers CL money when they are on their knees, this bullshit of as long as we're better than them has backfired we should have strived for a better benchmark.

thats exactly what i was saying to my cousin and my da there tonight, i dont think we will ever see celtic in the champions league for a long long time if indeed we do ever eventually get in it again..

it pains me to say it but its the stark reality were facing, i hope im proved wrong because theres nothing better than a champions league night at parkhead..

heres hoping though that i am proved wrong and we do make it into the champions league and that we see a couple of more great european nights at paradise..:50:

I know how you feel and what your saying dude, but realistically, rangers aren't gonna win the league every year unto the ending of the world, so we will be there at some point lol :50:

Tbh, I pretty much felt after that game we had reached as far as we were likely to - we were definitely punching above our weight.

The main difference between then and now? The team that faced Milan had been playing together about 18 months - the team that faced Utrecht had been playing together about 18 days.

Sure you also remember Gordon's first european game as manager, and look what he went on to achieve. I'm still very heartened by the signings we've made, and one bad performance away from home has done nothing to change that.

    KTF. :50:

i know mate but because of the poor performances from scottish teams the past few seasons in europe, the co-efficent for scotland has dropped and will keep dropping unless things improve.. this means that we have now lost a champions league spot and the winners of the spl will only be able to qualify now and they now have to go through 3 qualifying rounds to make the champions league group stages which i really doubt we will ever be able to manage if we do win the league this year.. i hope im proved wrong but i really dont see it happening..

You thought being a kick of the ball away from the Champions League quarterfinals was great? Wait til we get stuck into Motherwell this weekend!

Or at least that's the mentality some have here about being knocked out of Europe

That is a bit shocking if they ever make the champions of scotland play qualifiers to be honest. It kinda makes a mockery of the name "champions" league. Co-efficients should really only affect runners up or third place but i suppose, if set up for champions only it would in turn force the competition to expand so it could fit the champions of more obscure european nations in and maybe decrease the overall quality. Still, i think we'll be back in it shortly, so keep the chin up! :celt_2:

You answered what i thought from an earlier post of mine ,i was sure at the end of this season that the winners had to qualify for the Champs ,its that bad in Scotland that we dont get a straight invite into that company anymore ,we * ourselves laughing when we see rangers getting humped ,Dundee Utd ,Motherwell,Aberdeen and so on in the last few years but all those bad results count against Scotland .

If we win the League magic ,but Lennon has to get this season right and the next transfer window is a biggy to get players in and settled for a qualifier in early August probaly ,get a proper team built and hopefully click and be ready for this at the start of next season ,no point in waiting till next summer ,do it asap ,its our only hope.
