My folks have decided to ditch the Tivo box so I just bought them a Freeview box. The roof aerial on the roof of our council house is totally knackered so theirs no incoming signal from it. I plugged in a little set top aerial and managed to get a few channels but the signal is too week to receive all channels.

I was wondering: Is the council responsible for the repair/maintenance of the aerial or the tenant and if it is up to the tenant to get it fixed roughly how much would it cost?

Any help and info would be really appreciated. Thanks...:smile1:

One suggestion is, if the property has a loft you can buy inside aerials and install them yourself this will save you installation costs from a contractor.

i take it it will be the responsibility of the person living in the house at the time.

Its upto the council but they pay a company to sort this.

I moved into a house with no TV ariel and it was some amount of hassle to get them to sort it.

Duno about costs for someone to fix it. I would assume its the tenants responsibility as I doubt the council fitted it. Aerials don't cost much these days, you could always set one up in the loft if you don't fancy getting a birds eye view of the street. I doubt id pay someone to do it for me unless it was a close friend or relative who wouldn't expect much

We live in the bottom of a valley so our reception is terrible. A few years back a company I worked for screwed me over so I stole the freeview box out of the TV lounge and a signal booster, unfortunately the booster didn't make any difference. Virgin have told us they're putting our package up a fiver a month so we're going ditch the telly and keep the broadband and phone. These days if you have fast internet it kind of make the digital TV box redundant

    Thanks everyone...:50:
