This came from another Celtic Forum and is not my own work

My name is Phil O’Donnell and from Hamilton I came
And I swear to you I never courted fame
But from my early childhood, it was said that I was blessed
And at football I stood out among the rest.

So I tried to use my talent, be the best that I could be
And I set out on the road to destiny.
My debut game for Motherwell was in 90/91
And at fullback to, not my idea of fun!

Oh but please don’t call me a legend or a hero ‘cause I’m gone
I know that life and football will go on.
All I ask is you remember me with fondness and a smile
And you think about me just once in a while.

When I won the cup with ‘Well, I recall the day with pride
To know I’d played my part in that great side
Along with Boyd, McCart and Cooper and others you know well
What stories to our children we would tell.

And the day I signed for Celtic, it swelled my heart with joy
They’re the team I had supported as a boy.
Although injuries bedevilled me and I alas moved on
I have memories to cherish all life long.

Oh but please don’t call me a legend or a hero ‘cause I’m gone
I know that life and football will go on.
All I ask is you remember me with fondness and a smile
And you think about me just once in a while.

I’d a four year spell in Sheffield but injury took its toll
I was unable to achieve my goal.
Motherwell approached me, and to them I then returned
    My ambition and confidence reaffirmed.

As I helped out with the coaching I never did forget
That to the game I’d always owe a debt.
Until cruel fate dictated, I must leave this world behind
I hope I will live on in people’s minds.

If I creep into you thoughts one day, I hope I see you smile
Then I’ll know I’m recalled fondly for a while
And to those I leave behind me, you are never on your own
I swear that you will never walk alone.
