Obviously he played for you guys for almost 200 times.

Does anybody remember watching the great man as a player and thinking 'hey you know what, this guy might make a fantastic football manager'? I know he attributes his management style down to the Bhoys and Borussia Dortmund.

Oh and P.S I went to the Norwich promotion parade last tuesday and saw a massive Celtic flag! It would be brilliant if 2 big clubs could establish a link :)

Lambo was always a very intelligent footballer and quite a good leader on the park. On that basis, he always had a chance of being a good manager. His managerial career started very poorly but the job he's done at Norwich has been remarkable.

Paul Lambert was a class midfield footballer, with on the park noticeable class qualities, players like him that play that way with class, can and usually do make verygood coaches! Hughie Stein
PS. Can anybody imagine Scott (yellow card) Brown being a coach, me neither! LoL

The guy was always very well respected in terms of both his own ability, but the way he thought about the game. This was clear throughout his 8 years he was with us, the way he captained both our side & in the last few years he signalled his intent pretty strongly, worked just as hard to earn his coaching accreditations as he did as a player, and I believe he worked with Willie McStay with the youth and development squads whilst he still a first team player.

When he left us for the Livi job, like many others I wished him well, but despite the poor start, can't really level too much blame on Lambo for that, as one only has to look at the troubles that Livi have been in subsequently, which indicate the nature of long standing problems at that club.

I'll be 100% honest with you, I thought he would completely flop as a manager.

At the start I thought he tried too hard to be someone else instead of his own man and I also thought, stupidly, he wasn't clever enough to know the subtle nuances of getting the best out of his players.

He has made me look stupid, he was a winner as a player and he is a winner as a manager. Class act.

Quite frankly he was pish at Motherwell, Dortmund saw something which sadly says something about Scottish football, educated him in proper tactics and the rest as they say is history.....proper footballer, read the game well and always 100% commited.

Yes, his reading of the game was absolutely * amazing. He was a quite gash attacking midfielder at Motherwell, signed for Dortmund and when he signed for us he was a World Class defensive midfielder who was a key, key player in the Champions League winning Dortmund side.

Such a classy footballer, great player.

Was always very intelligent as a player, so it makes sense.

Lot of folk said he and Lennon couldn't play together in the same team, but they managed it very well - and in all honesty it was largely down to Lambert's smarts and versatility. Lenny always just did what Lenny did, but Lambo figured out a way of playing that complemented it, so that they would both leave space for each other.

Also think he learned a lot off Hitzfeld, and MON too...

i have always had a soft spot for Norwich, even before yous got Lambert and i wish yous the best of luck in the premier league.

I haven't really been supporting celtic long enough to really remember him but what i do remember of him and what i have seen of him, he seemed a fantastic player and he really is a wonderful manager, it takes something special to earn back to back promotions in the English leagues and the fact that Paul has achieved this at such a young managerial age is remarkable, i see him being one of the best managers in the world in a few decades. I would love to see him back up here one day but sadly i cant see it happening.

He was clearly an intelligent player, which tends to lend itself to management. However I always thought in interviews etc that he came across as a bit of a dimwit so wasn't expecting him to do much as a manager.

It's cool that i was wrong though. Always liked Lambo.

lest we forget in his final 12 months or so at the park we paid him 20K per week to study in Germany for his coaching badges. Just as well he has turned out to be a good coach!

all the best to him and Norwich in the prem next season - I hope they have a great time

Delia Smith deserves it too, what a laugh

he was a decent player while at motherwell then became an excellent player at dortmond.when we signed him you could tell he improved quickly in germany then went on to become a great player for us, very intellegent on the ball rarely wasted a pass and got stuck in aswell. tbh while manager at livi he didnt look like he would have a great career as a manager! but now proved a lot wrong and he reminds me so much of martin oneil in styles with his own added aswell. hope some day he will change his mind and come to be manager of celtic? but you guys enjoy the man now though.

I remember reading MON talking about having Lambert in his team, he said it was like having an extra coach/manager on the park. He could see when things weren't going our way and make small changes to help out. MON really rated him and said one day he would be a top manager........

That's me with him in my avatar :D

I was pretty young when he played, so didn't really think about if he'd make a good manager, but as others have pointed out he was a very intelligent player and he's also had alot of valuable experiences through playing in europe aswell as in the UK.

I rememer reading a bit in the paper about him when MON was the gaffer. He used to go in every Sunday morning for a rub then sit and have a cup of tea with MON and discuss the previous days game, management etc.
