What do you think it is?

I think 86% are in the uk with 70% in Scotland 15 in ireland with the rest world wide.
For the old rangers I think 98% in the uk with 96% in Scotland.

Impossible just to make wild guesses. But for a start I dont think the ratio is 6 fans in scotland for every 1 in Ireland.

Could actually make a poll on this for what country fans are from and that should be roughly what its like.

I think it depends what you mean by fanbase? People who would watch to listen to every game and buy the merchandise, or people who just like us more than any other foreign football team?

Even if we had a count of foreign fans it is actually pretty tough to turn that into anything meaningful as there would likely be far more causual well-wishers as opposed to die hard fans.

How do you calculate those %'s for the rest of the world? I'm a Celtic supporter from Holland and met only a few fellow Dutch Celts on the internet. In real life? None!

Impossible to tell really. Obviously you would expect most of our fans to come from Scotland and Ireland, but I wouldn't be surprised if we had more American fans considering the relative populations of these countries and given that we have a pretty large following over in the US. I certainly don't think 70% of our entire fanbase are in Scotland.
Am I right in thinking that our estimated worldwide fanbase is approximately 9m, or am I mis-remembering something I've read?

Feel like there's been a poll on here before, about where TalkCeltic members are from?

I know you're getting at a more general question. Would be hard to know.

The best way to measure it, I think, would be to delve into the Celtic Superstore's jersey sales database. Not that we have access to it.

When I want to buy a new kit (and I'm a foreign fan), I buy from there, because I want to get it direct from the club and have names printed. Would be very interested to see a % breakdown by country from their numbers. Also, I think it would be fair to say that people buying from the Superstore are likely somewhat serious supporters, as opposed to someone who stumbles across the Hoops in a soccer store and thinks the kit looks cool.

Probably would then inflate Scotland's share somewhat, since Celtic jerseys are more readily available, leaving people less inclined to purchase online.

I meant the uk as in uk and Ireland but in the 70% 15 of that is Irish.

Ireland is not in the uk. This would be the same as saying Spain and expecting Portugal to be included.

    We are Celtic Supporters
I don't think any other club has our kind of support ,it's hard to explain,I go to watch a lot of Celtic games in Kilburn and Archway in North London and every Irish pub is packed out, do you get that with other uk based teams (except Man united and Liverpool) that bars are packed out with support not from the clubs home city. If we where in The EPL, we would be in the top 5 supported clubs in the world if we are not already,(based on me thinking if we got to a CL final,i think we would * on any other clubs record support if that where to happen, and we all ready own that record,we could * on ourselves:86:)

Obviously the majority are in Scotland, tonnes of english and Welsh based hoops everywhere. Isnt our support quite poor in Ireland i thought they tended to go for teams in the premier league or so ive heard anyway.

    85% scotland
10% rest of the British Isles
    5% everywhere else

I have watched Chelsea v Arsenal in a packed bar in South Carolina. I watched the 2006 World Cup in China and squares in Beijing had big screens to show England games and everyone tunrned up wearing EPL & England tops. At university every African and Asia guy I knew supported an English, Italian, or Spanish club. Not one I met knew much about Celtic other than the name.

Of course we are a global brand. But we are not the only global brand and we like to kid ourselves on a bit regarding just how massive we are in my opinion.

our 3 game tour of australia had a total attendance of 55,000 ,so around 40,000 were celtic fans? (estimate), so in australia alone we probably have over 40 thousand!

I don't know about america, but I am sure we would have a similar percentage of population, so mabye 450,000 in north america? If anyone else has any other statistics andtoo much time to waste like I had we could probably work it out haha!

But we are at least a global brand from a less important (if not to say *) league, which is rather amazing.

Good point, Scotland having roughly 5 million people living there I would reckon that roughly the max we could have there is 5 million (BANTER!) which is out of 9 million 55%. Now subtract the people that don't care or even worse chose the dark side and you would be at somewhere around 2 million (that would actually say Celtic is their number one club in Scotland) this leaves you at 22% so lets say about 1/4 of the fans would be from Scotland. Ireland has a population of roughly 6 million that would give them (by the breakdown) roughly another 25% of the total share. So I would say Scotland and Ireland makes up for maybe 50% - wild guessing but that might be more accurate. The intensity of following, supporting and including Celtic into your daily live is likely to be higher though :celt_2:

Plenty of tims down-under, more so Australia than NZ though.

I remember bumping into a Swedish tourist who recognized the hoops, had a chat about Ljungberg with him. Get quite a few English expats who recognize the hoops, none of them seem to be too keen on the former Glasgow Rangers.

Spotted some cat flying a Rangers flag in his back yard, strangely enough. Live about five minutes away from him. Presumably he's a Scottish expat.
