Our board.

While I deplore almost everything about Clyde 1 Super Snoreboard I always listen to it. I especially can't stand Hugh Keevins and Gordon Dalziel, but they made a valid point about us in our pursuit for a new GK.

Now, the latter of the two wrongyins on that panel destroyed Zaluska for his blooper on Saturday, which is a bit harsh, but both of them asked:

Why do Celtic leave it till the 2nd game of the season at least to still be hunting for a new 'keeper?

WHY?

They're * right. We've had ages to source a new 'keeper and yet we're going into the 2nd game with Cervi on the bench. Nothing against the big man but he will be released on a free sooner or later. Zaluska, while he's earned a crack at it, might not be the #1 choice for us either.

So my question is for you lot:

Why is our board so blooming slow to get the finger out when we need players urgently? The left back problem we had for a few seasons should have told us by now but I'm still unsure why they take ages to fill a very, very important position for us.

Still a few weeks left of the transfer window, we will get a new GK! Lenny must have faith in Lukas to get us through this month until they can bring in a new no.1.

There must have been some problem with Pletikosa, thats why he hasnt signed after his trial. But there is nothing wrong with us taking our time to make sure we get the right man for the job! If we go out and rush we will end up with someone not good enough or who cant handle the pressure of playing for Celtic and then we end up with posts on here calling for the players head. We cant have it both ways.

Chill out mate, we will get someone in.

 

Why has Zaluska earned a crack at it? Because he sat on the bench for a year? It doesn't work like that.

 

I believe all targets should be sounded out to actually sign July 1st when the window opens.
But there are always problems. WE don't know who Celtic have contacted and who have knocked us back because the press don't always get the story.
THere is still 28 days to get the players required, so there is plenty of time. But I agree that we should have business sorted out quicker and stop fannying about with targets. It's always been a problem with Celtic as far as I can remember.

 

If he has faith in him for this month then why bother signing a goalie, why not let him see out the other 9 months?

Fact is we are in an embarrassing situation where we have a goalkeeper playing important competitive matches whilst all and sundry know we are actively seeking a replacement for him. If it was going on quitely behind the scenes then fair enough, but this public trial process is demeaning for Zaluska and the club. Fact is, the GK situation should have been sorted out ages ago.

Must be great for his confidence.

 

I'm chilled. My point is why have we left it to, at the very least, our 2nd game of the season before we sign a 'keeper? They should have realised we need our squad settled before we kick a competitive ball and prepared for life after Forster.

 

I agree it is frusrating not having the team completed before now .i too dont understand the delay in buying a keeper,when you look across at the huns they have paid big bucks to keep mcgregor and already it has paid off ,cos hearts would have beat them and malmo would have been out of sight ,without mcgregors saves .Hopefully the wait will be over soon and we acquire a top class goalkeeper
On a seperate note i,m quite pleased the bellamy deal never happened we should be investing our money in players who actually want to play for Celtic

 

hasn't Lennon already said they've sounded out a list of goalkeepers they're after and Zaluska can "hold the fort in the meantime"?

As has been said, we don't know WHO the board have contacted and who has knocked us back.

Also for the others who are saying we have loads of time left in the transfer window, we could be out of Europe by then. We should have known our targets, and sought them.

 

We have no idea what is going on behind closed doors. We might have found 10 keepers that we want and worked our way through them and they have all knocked us back! Just think Lenny and the board deserve a little time to find someone who is right for us and wants to come.

 

I'd rather we took a long time and made a great signing than rushing in and again failing to add the quality we need.

 

Hate when folk go on about plenty of time left, Time is something we dont have. Bet these same people are like, Still have a week left..........Still have a couple of days left...........Still a few hours left. You get ma point. We've known for the last year that we dont have a keeper why leave it this late? tottally agree this whole trial bussiness is demeaning for all involved and the club. Get a grip celtic, act like the club we aspire to be. Also, wether a deal is rushed through or painstakingly dragged out it makes no difference to how a player will play/settle at the club.

Its not as if he hasnt tried to get someone in ..I would be more worried if he hadnt have got someone in on trial ...Think the Problem here was Lennon wanted Given in , he * us over big style , we went in for Forster to be told he is not for sale ...Then Pleti (whatever his name was) just wasnt good enough ..So it wasnt as if he hasnt been trying ...Plenty of time left ..Yet again the media knocking Celtic and Certain fans taking the Bait !!!!

How did Given * us over? You really think we'd have matched Villa's 4 mill offer? There wasn't even an offer from Celtic, but yes he * us over.

 

His point is that the club is trying. But fans are panicking about it.

I trust Lenny and i know he will find us someone. Let the Huns panic with their half a team, we just need a GK and a striker and we will get them, eventually!

 

in 2 minds about critisizing the club over this we dont have a bottomless pit of money and the squad is huge with quite a few players that aren't good enough

so although frustrated by the lack of a new goalkeeper signing, the club is trying, we probably got complacent thinking we would have forster but got cause the big man done well for us it's pushed his transfer fee way up

 

The Beast is one of the best keepers in the world (FACT). On that basis alone, a goalkeeper should be our ABSOLUTE priority. No way would they have won the league last season without him, which for those of us who grew up in the 90s is some serious deja vu! Have my fingers crossed for Sandomierski.
