Tuesday 7:45pm KO away from home.

Massive match for us, must win really. If we do and Manchester United beat Villarreal it's showdown time at Parkhead with ourselves and the yellow submarines :icon_mrgreen:

As always Davie will have the match on TicTalk for anyone unable to get to a tv, for everyone else it's on STV and Sky Sports 2.

All the match chat in here please troops :50:

I was thinking a formation along the lines of this, it'll throw them off and give us extra options.

    --------------Boruc-----------------
    Hinkel---Caldwell----Big Mick---Wilson
    ------------------------------------
    -----Brown---Hartley---Robson------
    ------------------------------------
    ---Sheridan--Mcdonald--Samaras----

Reckon this will give us the edge in midfield, extra bit of fight. Get the full backs pushing up with Hartley sitting in to give them license to push right up and with the 2 big men and McDonald up front it gives us extra options. They all like to drop off the defence into the hole and with the right mixture of movement it would be a great option.

Can't see it happening but i would love it, Keegan style love it

    Come on Celtic!

Don't want to get my hopes up too much but I heard Villareal got well beat at the weekend. But the main thing is to make sure of UEFA Cup football after Christmas.

Why McDonald in the middle? Sheridan should go there.

Bring on Skippy at half time for a midfielder if we're struggling for a goal. Side set up to take advantage of set pieces which will be crucial imo! Plenty of protection at the back and plenty of energy from middle to front.

My feeling would be that they would be constantly switching about, so im not really bothered where they go. Take turns in dropping off the last defender in to the hole and leave us with there 2 centre backs fully occupied and there holding man having Brown and Robson having to deal with supporting as well.

Put a bit of thought into this and i think it would be a perfect formation. Not a lot of flair really but i think away from home its proved we need a workmanlike performance to take anything, we can always bring players like Naka or Maloney on if its not working.

A lot of height up front as and a sneaky wee * in Skippy that always just seems to find that we bit of space in the box.
Sheridan and Samaras have a bit of pace as well as height so it would be a really hard front line to deal with.

I think that he will go for the 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation that he was using pre season, he has Samaras back and i think he will play Maloney and Naka just off him, with broon,Robson and Hartley.(i feel for Donati, i reckon he might have started).
Whoever plays, i'm confident that we will get the win.

But Danes don't lack in height. This is good, but for Villarreal.

Michael Jacobsen (Centre back) is 6'1, Beachamp either a fullback or centre back is 6'3. Sorenson who is usaully a back up is 6'2. That's there tallest defenders. The rest are under 6 foot.

Sheridan is 6'5 and Samaras 6'4, but the key to this is they both are not classical target man, yes they can compete in the air but they are comfortable with the ball on the deck and running at players as well, they are good at link up play as is Skippy. If we can keep the possesion of the ball in there half it's half the battle won because with players like Brown, Hartley and Robson in midfield they are not going to get a minutes peace in there.

Caldwell at the back just takes comand and is tidy in possesion as well.

Plus I reckon they'll play with Saganowski as the lone striker

With these players, we can't have possession. I'd play 4-3-1-2, without McDonald, and get in Maloney/Naka behind the forwards.

Naka's to weak for this kind of game he's proved that in Europe, Maloney I might agree with as he showed his worth against Manchester United.

I disagree about the possesion thing with these players, Hartley's tidy, Brown has been our best keeper of possesion this season, Robson's a bit hit and miss with it but he's a fighter, he can win possesion back and he's good on the ball

McDonald needs to start, his link up play for the last month or so has been brilliant.

Brown and Hartley can't pass if their lives depended on that. That's why they are DM-s.

I wouldn't play the usual cl away game formation. unlike against Man Utd or Villarreal, against Aalborg we have got the better squad and we are the better football side too. we don't have to sit back and defend our lives and hope for a counter or set piece, this time we can play our own game like against the spl teams.

4-4-2 is the way to go and give them *. we gonna end our away barren run!

They don't have the rangE of passing of Crosas Donati or Naka but they can keep the ball and pass it 10 yards to another Celtic player and keep possesion.

Would you count Scott Brown as a defensive mid? He can play that role but he is not a defensive midfielder

Mascherano, Lennon, Lambert Makalele are defensive mids.

He has the grit, determination and drive, but is weak on the ball. Shot decent, but he's a DM. He hasn't got the skill for AM, what he was claimed for.

    My team would be

    _________________________________boruc_____________________________________

    ________hinkel_________caldwell_________mcmanus__________naylor_____________

    ______nakamura_______brown_________robson_______mcgeady_____samaras________

    ______________________________mcdonald___________________________________

I would leave maloney on the bench.
I presume mcgeady is training so should be fit.
I have went with naylor because wilson is not a natural left back and will be exposed the most if played.

Also went with sammy on the wing instead of up front, he can play there and has pace, something we need to win imo.

Anyway bhoys i think no matter what team we play we are going to win this game no disrespect to allborg but what we need to do is give them no peace get right in about them robson style and we will win the match, It also wouldnt be a bad idea to pin all the * allborg players have been saying the last few weeks up on the dressing room wall, Beacuse they think there going to pump us:icon_mrgreen:

He's a central midfielder, hes not an attacking midfielder or a defensive midfielder.

He's a tempo setter and he is definately not weak on the ball, he's one of the only players i trust to take the ball in the middle of the park look around him and run with the ball or move the ball on
