    Was Scotland, now Canada
With the 6 Nations now only a few weeks away I thought I’d start a thread to get the posters interested in rugby to share their views about the upcoming tournament and the Pro12, Prem, Top14 etc.

With Kelly Brown now missing the tournament with a dislocated fibula, Ross Ford has been confirmed as Scotland Captain for the Calcutta Cup match on the 4th. Without KB in the squad he’s the obvious choice. One of the few players guaranteed to start and a leader from the front with Edinburgh. After Edinburgh’s performance at the weekend to top their HC group, Robbo would be crazy not to start with Laidlaw at 10. The thought of Parks in a Scotland jersey makes me shiver and Weir hasn’t performed well with Glasgow in recent weeks. Cusiter would have been my first choice scrumhalf but he’s been up and down the past few games and Blair had a stormer at the weekend. Robbo may feel that if he’s to play Laidlaw then the sensible thing would be to keep the club combo and play Blair.

Brown’s absence is a serious blow to Scotland and it means selecting the backrow is going to be tricky. Denton is playing well with Edinburgh but is uncapped. Barclay has been shifted from openside to no 8 at Glasgow with little success, and Beattie is a shadow of the player who ran teams ragged in 2010. Fortunately, the England backrow is inexperienced so if he goes with Strokosch, Rennie/Barclay, Denton at 6,7,8 we should have some success going across the gain line and at the breakdown. Front five picks itself and the backs could be any combination of players. Max Evans has been poor for Castre and Lee Jones had a very good game at the weekend. Sean Lamont will probably step into the 12 shirt with De Luca outside him. Wings will likely be Ansbro and Evans/Jones with Rory Lamont at full back. I expect a place on the bench for Hogg and Weir.

I’m thoroughly looking forward to the first game. If we can get the win we could be in for a great championship.

Good luck to Scotland. I think with home advantage they might well cause an upset here in this one. Hopefully Ireland can put the world cup quater-final defeat behind them with a rematch win against Wales in the opener in Dublin.

I look forward to seeing Denton at No 8. Youngster yes but a very talented one. Hopefully he and the forwards can control the game and get us into try scoring positions.

I don't think Scotland are good enough for a Grand Slam but beating England at home will inspire a lot of confidence into the side and with that they may well surprise us all.

Favourites for me would have to be France even though they don't always produce their best rugby in the 6 Nations.

i live in an area of Wales where football basically doesnt feature whatsoever. It's hard to explain how dominant rugby is.

6 nations is the be all end all for me.

Come on Wales!! the Wales/Ireland occasions are always fantastic. the camaraderie is brilliant, its just one big love in every year. 40,000 welshmen going to dublin or 40,000 irishmen going to cardiff. brilliant.

Howeve the big one is always England. it almost defines the year up until the summer at least. it means everything.

Flower of Scotland...the best anthem in the world. incredible. i'd love to be amongst Murrayfield one day for a Scotland/Saxon's game to hear the proud scots sing.

"Prince Edward's Army! Homeward Bound, Tae think again!"

    have that Longshanks you *

What a missed opprtunity that was for Scotland today. Scotland had plenty of chances in that final 20 minutes to get a try but they just couldn't finish. Very disappointing as England were there for the taking.

i read if we win it will be our first three in a row since 1979. coooome on.

this game is big personally for bragging rights with my irish friends but in reality it will always be the england game we focus on. tomorrow could set up a Grand Slam though.
