Maybe a few of our members in the 06 can help me with this............

I've always wondered which of the football teams in Northern Ireland are mostly supported by the Nationalist community and which ones are mostly supported by the Unionist community.

I know Linfield are the Rangers of the O6 and I believe Donegal Celtic and Cliftonville are supported mostly by the Nationalist community.

The rest? I have no idea. So can you help me fill in the blanks................

    Linfield - Unionist
    Portadown - Unionist
    Cliftonville - Nationalist
    Coleraine - Unionist
    Crusaders - Unionist
    Glentoran - Unionist
    Donegal Celtic - Nationalist
    Ballymena - Unionist
    Dungannon - ?
    Distillery - Mixed
    Glenavon - Mixed
Carrick Rangers - ? I'm guessing Unionist with that name.
    Ards - ?

Oh.......and Lower Maze - ?(I only ask because I've just taken them over on FM :icon_mrgreen:)

    Thanks in advance. :50:

Cliftonville and Newry Town are about the only Catholic teams.

The rest are either mixed or Huns. Unfortunately, my home-town team (ha), Portadown, are most definitely Huns.

Portadown, forgot about them. Thanks. :50:

Surely Donegal Celtic are mostly supported by Nationalists too?

EDIT: Didn't forget about Portadown. Think I'm going blind :52:

Donegal Celtic doesn't get that much support...spend most of their time outside the Premier Division.

I completely would've forgotten about DC if someone hadn't mentioned it. They're a small club.

I've largely ignored the game in NI, to be honest, as it is basically a Protestant market. I recall vaguely being interested in it when Cliftonville won the league in '97-'98 (same year we did it!), which seemed like fate finally coming good.

But that may have been down to it being my first year of any active interest in the game. :56:

Also, the Troubles were still ongoing...

Personally I think Cliftonville, Newry City and Donegal Celtic should move to the league of Ireland like Derry City did. Then leave the Irish league to the Huns and let them * about with themselves and there awful * thing they call a league.

Derry were forced out of that league by the sectarian IFA at that time. Wouldn't happen in this day and age , with other clubs .

But aye it would be nice to see a few other northern teams in the league of ireland.

Belfast Celtic were massive, great club with great support, the Irish League died when Belfast Celtic folded, it the reason some people refer to us as Glasgow Celtic,
